I just bought Model 66 with a 2-1/2 barrel it has a pinned barrel and a recessed cylinder and a hammer mounted firing pin...it was NRA rated in excellent condition....I gave $350.00 for it....is this too much???What do you think.

Is there a Revolver forum?

I looked at a Colt Snub today it is in like new and locks up solid as a rock..the shop had it marked as a Detective Special...the barrel was about 2 inches...but they said that it was a .357 and not a .38 special...I did not know that Colt made that model in .357...it had the orginial box and paper work...they are asking $499.00 for it is that high for a great condition Colt..
I may give it another look based on the feed back I get here...I will need to be sly with this one I just bougth to Revovlers in the last month...the above mentioned 66 and 442 Nickel plated...not to mention trading for a Sig 220 in October...the wife is starting to get that look.
:D

Sounds all right to me, although ratings tend to vary quite a bit.

Never minding how the shop marked the gun, what did the manufacturer mark it? I've never heard of a Detective Special in .357 magnum.

Just took a quidk trip to the Colt forum and the Detective Special was made in .357...it was first called the SF-VI (Small Frame 6 shot) then the Detective Special II and I believe later the Magnum carry (but I may be wrong on the last part) it was not a very popular gun with the Colt fans though

The DS and the SF-VI (a SS DS with the new lockwork) were chambered in .38 special. Colt beefed up the DS's cylinder to produce the DSII which in turn was renamed the Magnum Carry chambered in .357mag. There is also a limited King Cobra (which is a .357mag) with a 2" barrel known as the Combat Cobra. For a price of $500 I would say it was a Magnum Carry and not a bad deal.
The Magnum Carry was short lived as Colt dropped it's production line handguns.

If the rating on the 66 is correct, the price is about right. How do you like it?

I have not had the chance to any serious range work due to sickness and bad weather but I plan on fixing that this weekend...I have had one in the past and loved it but like a fool sold it...I have always regretted that...I hope that I have the same feeling for this little puppy...I know the recoil with hot loads will not be a problem because I like a little kick from my guns...the trigger is as smooth as slik...I want some Custom wood grips for it...I would like them to be checkered and have finger grooves...any suggestions....
