Just got a new pistol grip and 18.5" barrel for my 500A. After installation, I eagerly began filling it with random 12 gauge rounds. The first two shots had the typical amount of recoil I expected. The third round turned out to be a 3" slugger that caught me way off guard. Am a I a wimp, or did it seriously almost take my hand off? Damn...

You have got to be kidding me right? 3" slugger's in a PGO are looking for pain. You need to lock that wrist into your hip or thigh and learn to shoot accurately this way if you plan on keeping the PGO. No more 3" shells either. :what:

Three inch 12 ga magnum shells make me say Ouch no matter what shot size or which shotgun.

IMO it's the same principle as staying on a horse that decides to buck you off. I realize not everyone has ridden a horse that doesn't want to be ridden, so: Tense up the muscles you need to maintain a firm grip and relax the others. If you allow your body to absorb the recoil without fighting against it you'll discover you can greatly reduce any discomfort and maintain excellent control of the weapon, though judging by the pic I'd say you need a different PG, for sure.

Do a search here, and you'll find plenty of words around the issues associated with shooting a PGO (pistol grip only) shotgun.

Yeah, they can be very, uh, challenging to the point of being Officially Not Fun.

I prefer a full stock for my SD/HD shotguns because they point better for me, I hit better with 'em, and they don't hurt when I use 'em. If you want to run full-power loads, you might want to try reinstalling the buttstock and seeing if that works better for you.

3" shells in a PGO shotgun????

Dude...you are 1 serious glutton for punishment.

Pain is "Mother Nature's" way of telling you "Hey...knock it off."

You have been crazy to stick a three inch slugger into a pistoled shottie.

I rode three inch magnums with my Remington full shoulder stock and it's like trying to stay on a bucking horse. At least I learned to like it, I hate shooting the things but I can and will fire on the shoulder those mags.

Pistol grip shots with mag rounds, no way! Hands are way too useful for other things.

If someone who is 8 feet tall and has a hand/wrist larger than the average leg, they can shoot whatever they want any way they want.

No offense, but when a body part gives you pain when you tried to fire something, it's too much, back it down a little.
