looking for a good (cheap) place to get .30-06 ammo from. it is just for target pratice out of my M1 Garand, so i dont need a big grain bullet.

in shotgun news there is an ad for 500 rounds for $88.50, but it dosent say if it is corrosive or non-corrosive. i want non corrosive so i dont waste by baby away trying to save a couple bucks.

anyone?

thank you

Ammoman has Korean made (PMC) milspec 30-06 150gr FMJ for $79 per 376 round can (free shipping) on 8-round Garand clips. Non-corrosive and reloadable.

DO NOT get the Korean ammo on the M1 clips.
I got 2 cases.
Not from "ammoman" but from what I heard it's all the same.

The stuff on clips goes back to 1967 and is corrosive before (I think) 1970.
I had a 1972 case blow out and found another 72 case with a hairline crack near the base of the case.

The 400 round can is packed in boxes and is clean and looks good.
I've shot about 150 rounds of it.

I ran across this on the net also, so I'm not the only one who has had trouble. Note his case split like mine.

"I finally had a chance to try out my 1944 SA today. I was using the Korean ammo which comes clipped in the bandoliers from AIM surplus. This was my first time shooting a rifle in 25 years. Shot ten clips at one hundred yards and put every shot on the paper.Still not sure how to aim for the bullseye when I can hardly see the target!Even though I used the bright orange ones! As a footnote, on the third round the case split wide open for the rear half inch of the case.At the base it split clear to the primer.Smoke was rolling out of the magazine and the next round did not load. This was my only malfunction. I did not touch the sights at all.I LOVE it!!! The guy next to me thought I should put a plastic stock on it! Lucky for him I have no bayonet!! "

My case.

Ammoman says his KA .30-06 is non-corrosive but I've heard from too many people who say otherwise.

I bought a case of the Danish. I did a spot check of a few clips in the case and found a few bullet tips and one tiny part of the corner of some clips with a very small amount of corrosion. The Danish clips are not loaded for a right handed person with the top cartridge starting on the right side of the clip. Overall the Danish looks nice and have better than usual bandoleers. These bandoleers can be reused for a long time. The wooden case is also nice.

I have a SA 1953 Garand. If I had a bolt action .30-06 I wouldn't mind shooting the corrosive KA, but I don't want to tear down the Garand's gas system everytime I shoot.

The Danish would be a even better if they boxer primed the cases!!

I have 100 rounds of the Korean PS .30-06. I plan on buying a little more before it's all gone. I say NATO should drop the .308 and go back to .30-06! :D

30-06

most of the korean is corrosive...none of the dealers will own up to it....i looked and looked and looked and it is hard to find any good 30-06 ammo to shoot...

Keep an eye out for Talon reman'd ammo. They take milsurp ammo, pull bullets, deprime, swage the primer pocket, reprime with NC primer and re-seat the bullets. I disremember if they use the pulldown powder or commercial powder, but I've had good results with such ammo, both in Garand and Springfield. BTW, the stuff I bought I got from Navy Arms, in their packaging. IIRC, it was $200/case(1000), but that's been 5-6 years or so.

UHHHH!!

Actually, Nato, and most of the rest of the world as well dropped both the .30-06 and the 7.62X51 (.308) and went to the 5.56X45 many years ago.

VD, :D The Korean should be treated as corrosive. Some is, some isn't. As long as you clean the rifle right after shooting it, and use Windex (or diluted ammonia) initially when cleaning, it shoots decent. (At least so far for me.)
I shoot it out of an M1903A3. I get mine at www.sportsmansguide.com They have lotsa good ammo, surplus and not.

Paul TX, fewer and fewer nations still issue the FAL. Its peak of 'popularity' was about 20 years ago. Still a good rifle, though!;)

The Korean stamped PS is non corosive. There have been some lots with splits but I have not got them. The stuff from Wideners right now is non corosive and reloadable. Shoots well too. I ordered some Korean from J&G about a year ago and didn't know about the whole corrosive thing. Got some KA headstamp, pretty accurate. Shot while on a trip and since I thought it was non corosive waited 2 days till I got home to clean the weapon. Absolutely no problem. Now I'm not saying to do that, and I wouldn't again, but just letting you know that its not all bad.
