Varget and H4350 have always been my go-to loads for 30-06 with 150gr Hornady Interlock SP. Saw a few recipes in the books for TAC and decided to try a few. I loaded 10 with 47.0gr and CCI200 primer and 10 with 42.0gr and WLRM primer (because that’s what we do when experimenting with magnum primers). Both sets had Hornady 150gr Interlock SP bullets. It LOVED the magnum primer. Dead on. The CCI200 loads were mediocre. Not sure if I’ve seen anywhere about using magnum primers with TAC. It shoots beautifully in .223 with regular small rifle primers.

I shoot .308 and my rifle loves IMR 4064 w/168 grain HPBT. I tried TAC with the same bullet. Windage was great, but suffered from terrible vertical stringing. I shot 4 five-shot groups & they all climbed right up the paper. I dunno, could be me ??

I'm getting close to retirement and won't be able to spend what I do now on shooting in a couple years. The reason I settled on TAC is a) it's good for both 223 and 308 and b) I've shot moa groups with cheap 150gr Hornady FMJ in my JP and DD 308s, and moa groups with cheap 55gr Hornady FMJ in my Larue 223. My PWS carbine shoots about 1.5 moa with same.
For me that is perfection. I get great accuracy for low dough and will still be able to enjoy myself, if not quite as frequently as I do now, when I retire.

I have not tried TAC. My usual is BL-C(2), but I was recently given some IMR 4895. Both of these powders can yield match grade ammo.
@Jdague12 Do you have a pic of your target?

It LOVED the magnum primer. Dead on. The CCI200 loads were mediocre.

Actually, I found the exact opposite when I tried it in .308. Working up a blasting load for my M1a, using CCI #34 Arsenal primers, I got mediocre accuracy and big SD's. I also worked up some test loads for my .308 Savage bolt gun, and the 168grn SMK. Again, the CCI 250's gave mediocre accuracy and big SD's, but when I shot the same loads with standard CCI 200's, the groups basically cut in half, and my SD's as well. I had never seen that big of a difference with a powder just by swapping a primer. The reason I worked up those 2 loads for the Savage was because I had heard TAC did not like Magnum primers, and I wanted to see for meself.

The .30-06 is a much larger case, so maybe the differences with the Magnum primer and TAC are mitigated a bit. In any event, you got good results with your rifle.... that's what counts.

Neither TAC nor Varget are a great choice for 30-06. They do OK with lighter bullets and I'm sure you can find an accurate load. Both of those are great 308 powders, but the larger case capacity of a 30-06 works better with a slower powder like H4350. Especially with 165 gr or heavier bullets

I've used magnum primers in the past with both 30-06 and 308. It just didn't make much difference either way for me.
