Yes it is! I have two that consistently group 1/2 MOA with the right handloads...often better.I am going through a 270 Win stage. With the right barrel, bedding, and bullets, a 270 Win is an extremely accurate cartridge.

Actually, the .30-03 was based on the 7X57 originally. It became the .30-06 when the US copied a new, lighter 8mm bullet. You mean 8x57 based.
If I could afford the dies I'd probably convert my 35 to the brown whelen.Actually, the .30-03 was based on the 7X57 originally. It became the .30-06 when the US copied a new, lighter 8mm bullet.
My favorite '06 based round is the .35 Brown-Whelen, the most radical form of the Whelen.
What's your favorite rifle cartridge that was developed from the 30-06? This is more for fun than anything else. Pics are welcome if ya got em!
6.5-06 A square I want one so bad it’s one of the few cartridges that I really really wish would’ve taken off!
I get 2,800 fps with a 225 grain Nosler Partition Jacket. I use RL 15 -- but you'll have to work up your own charge -- there's no such thing as a "standard" .35 B-W. Start with a .35 Whelen charge and work up slowly. If I could afford the dies I'd probably convert my 35 to the brown whelen.

338-06 ... is a round that I can’t understand why it never took off ... high sectional density bullets .. perfect for elk & bear
Yeah me too. And I am in a multi decade love affair with the 30-06...If a gun God came down and said only one ".30-06" cartridge could survive and I had to choose which one, I'd pick 280AI. It just seems like optimized badassery.

For a .338-06, this item (https://www.gunbroker.com/item/867617887) has a reasonable "Buy It Now" price. If I was in the market for one, I would give it serious consideration. Especially because I have a soft spot for Mannlicher style stocks. The one regret that I have about a 338-06 is that I didn't have one many years ago when I was doing a lot of hunting in Colorado. For me it is the perfect big game round because it performs at a level much higher than expected. It is accurate and works well in my Winchester Model 70 featherweight with a 22 inch barrel at a weight of 8 pounds 11 ounces with scope and sling. I load my own ammo and it is fun to load and shoot. I can't see why more big woods hunters didn't pick up on this cartridge. Every gunsmith that I know who talks about the round say it is a great cartridge and I have nothing but positive comments. When I started using larger diameter bullets my enjoyment of big game hunting increased.
