Have a ton of 30-06 brass I just tumbled and deprimed. Here are the average weights of each brand of cartridge. Some people think heavier cartridges are better, so this info may be of some use. All the OAL are about the same. Weights in grains. For each brand, at least 30 shells were weighed. Next I will have one of the kids measure, record and calculate all the volumes (what a way to earn an allowance).

LC had the least weight variation. PPU had the most variation and the lightest cases. FC is the leader with super heavy cases!

Nosler = 181.8g

RP = 195.9g

"Super Speed" = 186.6g

FC = 203.2g

Winchester = 185.9g

LC (various dated headstamp) = 193.4g

UMC = 206.4g

Super-X = 183.1g

WW Super = 188.5g

PPU = 180.2g

Norma = 181.8

Calculateing the volue of the case would be tricky unless they know how to write a computer program that can do triple integrals using Simpsons rule and sum the computed volume of the web, shoulder and neck. They are better off measuring water volume in the different cases.

You can't calculate case volume with Chinese algebra.
Exact trim length, sized or unsized, and differences in case web dimensions all affect the weight, and volume.

The only way to find & compare actual case volume is to size & trim them all, then fill each with water and weigh the water.

You obviously did not have a large enough sample size. My LC M72 Match brass range from 189gr to 195gr.

It may have been due to that most my LC is the same year. The one year (66 I think) was between 192.8 to 196.3. #2 on consistency was FC.
