So I'm doing a work up for a garand, I'm using mostly rp brass with a few fc and Winchester mixed in. Cci lr primers, imr 4895 and a hornady 150gr soft point. I hope to make this my standard plinking load but....

I'm trimming to 2.448 after being resized in a rcbs FL sizing die. When I go to seat my bullet I can't get the case mouth to crimp in the cantulare. I've trimmed one to 2.455 and it had a light crimp. I've fiddled with my die (rcbs) and have it bottomed out and I just can't get it to crimp

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

30-06 "Trim Too" length is 2.484", not 2.448", or 2.455".
MAX OAL is 2.494".

That right there might be your problem!!

No sooner did you post that. You would think after 4 years in a machine shop I would know how to read a dial caliber. Good thing it was only 5 peices.

Thanks

Just for FYI, I've had my best luck with both of my Garands, a "rack" grade and a National Match grade with IMR4895 and Remington 9 1/2 primers.

I also use a good tight neck, and almost no crimp.

A crimp is not necessary with the Garand as long as you have good neck tension. It is rare with regular FL dies that you would not have good neck tension.

Don't need to crimp them anyway.... I'd skip it.

Long ago I shot a garand in high power matches. never crimped a bullet in 20yrs of shooting that garand.
