I found a 30-30 in a pawn shop for 125 bucks. Problem is, stock is broken. Anyone know where I can find a good replacement stock? I think it was a Winchester model 94.

Ric

You can get replacement wood and synthetic stocks from a number of sources. If the gun is mechanically sound with a good bore, grab it, quick!

Stocks are available from Gun Parts Corp., Brownells, etc. You should have no trouble finding them.

brownells price is 75 bucks, if it is an over 6mil. serial number. Anything under is 105. I guess 75 would be ok, if I could get mr. pawnshop owner down to about 110 bucks? NIB 30-30 at wal mart is 275

Ric,
Location plays a big part in the price of used firearms. Here in Michigan that gun is worth every bit of $125. Lever guns, outboard motors, and snow blowers seem to demand a premium  .
At that price, even with new stocks, you should be able to get your money back without a problem.
If its the short barrel (16") I'd be tempted give you what you got into it when you're done with it, sight unseen. :neener:

check midway. They have good stocks for < $50.
Good luck,

David

Come to think of it, if you don't want that gun, buy it and sell it to me.

< Reprobate Voice> ...don't you be putting a synthetic stock on that Classic - sonny...The Duke will come haunt you in your sleep... :p

Dont you mean Curmudgeon voice :D j/k. I was just offering the cheapest alternative. Mine is 100% Organic of course. ;)

Update

I went back and bought it. $110 out the door. The stock has two fractures that run close to where the stock screws to the rifle. I believe that I can use some sort of epoxy or other bonding agent to fix it. If so, I got a heck of a deal. The bore is perfect. There is some very light rust marks here and there, and just a little bit in the action area. I gave it a good cleaning already. 20" barrel, nice action. Serial # is <3 million.

will post pics soon.

I have seen used butt stocks for $10-$25 on ebay, gunbroker.com and auctionarms.com.

Good score. I'd have grabbed it, too.

Congrats!

The leather around the stock - "shrunk" down tight works really well. Old trick that has been used forever...will give it some 'character' as well. Might work out and not need a new stock.

Rupestris, I knew you were kidding. :)

Hey - this repeating stuff back to folks as was told to me as a wee brat is kinda fun. They didn't let on , or tell me back when how fun it is. :D

I wish some kids would come into the yard...I wonder if I have the crabby voice and knack to run them off. :D

oh...oh ...I gots that cane I bought...yeah that'll add to the effect....

<points cane> you young'uns - get outta my yard....Scat I say...take that cat wit ya too...! How'd I do? :neener:

Everyone should own at least ONE lever rifle...marlin OR winchester...

Winnies are my prefered tool, however. :)

Good grab though. Fine lady like that needs nice furniture, however. :D lol

I agree with the first part...but I also recommend Brownings :)
Come to think of it, I've rarely met a levergun I didn't like...

Got duct tape?
The great thing about used guns (especially well-used ones) is you don't worry about every little scratch and ding. You just use it. And enjoy it.
Congrats on your new purchase, Ric.
Enjoy-
David

not to bust your bubble, but that's about what a used 30-30 in really nice shape will sell for here....

Like new ones will rarely bring $200

New ones can be had at wally world for well under $300

I was thinking the same thing. I recently picked up a very lightly used Winchester 94 in 30-30 for $150 out the door. That's the going rate for a used 30-30 lever gun around here...until hunting season.

Don't worry, bubble not busted. Stock is easily fixable, and the total investment is only $110 bucks.

I'm delighted

I will keep you posted, for sure. I hope to reattach the stock in the morning. If needed, I will find some nice leather strap to wrap it until I can find a better stock, should this one not act right. Pics coming.
