Who out there is loading .30-30 with LEVERevolution powder? I'm looking at working up some loads of that behind the Hornady 160gr FTX bullets. Looking in Hornady's 9th Ed, they're showing a min charge of 27.7gr and a max of 37.0gr. The Hodgdon site lists only a range of 32.0gr to 35.5gr. I e-mailed Hornady and asked them about the information in their book since it's so divergent from Hodgdon's information yet the powder was a joint-venture. Hornady's response was that their information was correct and based on live-fire testing. I'm thinking about starting a load work-up at 32.0gr, going with the minimum of Hodgdon that's within Hornady's range but I'm wondering where the real max is. Who out there is loading this combo already who might have some insights?

I'm using LVR in the 30-30 but I'm not loading a Hornady FXT bullet. I'm using a Hornady or Sierra 170gr RN bullet and I'm surprised at the accuracy and velocity. I'm using Hodgdon load data but since you mentioned the Hornady data is different I will have to check that out, thanks.

You should be perfectly safe starting with 32.0gr LVR. I'm fairly sure your load will be compressed well before you get to the Hornady max charge. (not that it's bad) Keep us updated on your results.

Work your way up! Your rifle will tell you what it likes and what it does not. I imagine you will find a good load before either max charge you saw.

FWIW hodgdon data has proven to be on point for me much more often than not, but there are many variables that can show different load data points.

Yeah, I figure that I'll find a good load before the max. If I can come up with a load that duplicates the off-the-shelf LeveRevolution ammo, I'll be happy quite honestly. I just finished a light refurb and a stock redo on a Marlin 336 and it was a tack driver with Remington Corelokt RNs and Hornady. But I want to standardize on the Hornady/FTX setup for the sights since they're quite different aim points.

34.5gr is giving me 2250fps in my Model 94, which isn't much above Hodgdon's listed starting velocity. To reach their max speed, 2389fps, you might very well have to get up into the near 37 range.

LVR powder

In my 336 I worked a load up to 36.2gr in Hornady brass w/Fed primer and had avg velocity of 2332 in a 5 shot string with the 160gr FTX bullet.
