30-30 or the 44 on critters?

To me the 30-30 is better for light skinned game due to velocity.

The 44 with 300+gr bullets can out penetrate any 30-30 and would be my choice for self defense on bear or shooting through heavy bone in general.

Not a big fan of the 432 bore on most Marlins but that's a different issue

44 mag is ok but it just doesn't do it for me in a long gun. Yeah, its powerful but if i want a 40+ caliber hole in something i'll use a 45-70 that has versatility and power the 44 mag couldn't dream of at a lot lower pressure.

30-30 all the way. It is a true rifle cartridge with more range and better velocity and bullets. I have a 44 Mag revolver. Just the way they were intended. Unless you're in a straight wall state, pistol cartridge rifles make no sense. Why limit yourself.
