30/30 Win 94 -Berry's?
Hello, maybe someone can help?
I purchased (1000) 150gr, non-cannelure,copper plated, flat nose Berry's bullets for my Win Lever 94 ( just to punch paper,as the rifle was a gift).I have the following reloading manuals: Lee 2nd, Hornady 7th, Nosler 6th, Speer 14th, & Lyman 49th. All of these books have starting loads at roughly 1900fps. Berry's website tells us not to push them past 1700fps(& crimp w/ cannelure),furthermore, i have the following powders on hand: IMR4831, Varget, H335, RL-22, RL-15.
Obviously, I didn't do my homework, my question is, what powder will give me the lower speeds i'm looking for without ruining accuracy? I have read TrailBoss & BlueDot on other ,somewhat, related posts? Thanks for responding, if anyone knows! SgtRock04

I don't have my reloading manuals in front of my so my best guess is that you are looking at jacketed bullet data. If that is the case, if I were you, I would try to find some cast bullet data and look at those loads.

I would say try out the light loads. 200fps is nothing when your that high up in fps distances. I have cast load data at home for the few 30-30 cast I have to try. I believe trail boss was under 10 grs. But that is for cast bullet, not a copper plated.

None of the powders you have are suitable for the 30-30.

I'd look in your Lyman manual at data for the 170 grain cast bullet and pick a powder from there.

IMR-4198 would be a likely suspect.
Around 19.0 grains should get you there with your 150 plated bullets.

I have loaded that bullet with trailboss and unique in my 30-30. I dont know what die set you have, but I found that the lee FCD works well with that bullet. It squeezes the neck to the bullet, and creates a cannlure. Just dont crimp too much.

I shoot a gas checked, 170 gr, cast boolit in my Remlin 30-30. I've had very good results with 18 gr of IMR 4198.

Good Luck

I have used IMR-3031 with these bullets.
I also have used Unique and cast data with them.
There very fun to plink with. Especially when using the Unique.

I usually just shoot one at a time since I don't crimp them and I have a tubular magazine. Gotta be careful with that.

I recently started shooting my Marlin 336 30-30 using a 110 g copper plated round nose Berry's bullet pushed by 26 g of H4198. They are clocking 1980 fps, Berry's suggested not shooting them more then 1600 fps but I am getting very good accuracy from this load. It is shooting 2" groups at 100 yds. The best part of this load is that it shoots to the same point of aim at 50 and 100 yds. as store bought 170 g. Winchesters.

he general consensus is to use lead data with Berry's bullets

Uhh, I thought the consensus was to use low end to mid range jacketed dat with Berry bullets.

Rainers are cast data.

Thanks to everyone for their input, still working on the brass, but I will digest all the suggestions & then check my manuals to do some load development.I will post results soon. SgtRock04
