I am going to start loading 30 carbine, so I picked up some 90 grain 30cal XTP bullets for assembling carbine ammo.
I would like to try to cook some up some 90gr XTP ammo for 30-30, using of course win748 propellant. Mainly for splattering over grown rodents all over the place.
A little searching around shows up to 41 grains of 748 being used with light weight bullets.
Does any one have a good 90 grain 30-30 load using 748 or H322?

H322 is my other 30-30 propellant. I plan on using up the H322 I have and not buying more and just buying 748 by the keg, unless H322 works better with light weight bullets.

Sorry I can't help with those powders. I have used 4198 and 3031 beneath the 110 gr 30 carbine bullet as an excellent slayer of porcupines and possum as well as a fun light round for the children. You will enjoy the results.

Don't own and have not loaded 30-30 and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night....
but I did shoot one ages ago.
Lee shows 36.8gr Win 748 with a 110gr jacketed bullet. Hodgdon's web site shows MAX 36.8 with a 110gr.
Lyman shows 110gr Win 748 start 36gr max 41gr and lists 41 as a compressed charge.
125gr Win 748 start 35gr to MAX 39gr and lists 39 as a compressed charge.

For H322 with 100gr buillet Lee shows 33gr start MAX 35. 35 is listed as compressed.

You may already have this but I thought it might help.

Hodgdon has load data for a 110gr bullet in the 30-30 using W748 and I see no reason not to use that data for a 90gr bullet and see how it works out.

5.1 gr of 473AA shot gun powder with a 150 gr lrnfp in a 30-30 is a nice load to use in the yard +- 50 yds it goes in and out of a 6" pine log.

No problem, I load 30 cal 110 & 100gn semi-jackets all the time for plinking while fire forming Brass at the same time for my 30-30AI, using 37 or 38gns of 748 and sometime I will use a pistol Powder with 6gns of 231.. my 9yr old daughter does most of my fire forming since were just plinking around, with 37gns of 748 and a 100gn semi-jacket she can shoot eggs nearly every shot at 75yrds. Good for her target shooting. I have never chronograhped the load because it works fine and I use other calibers for exploding vermons.

That sounds like a good start and 748 is the way to go.
I wonder if the 90 grain bullets will shoot straighter than the 150gr speer bullets I usually load.

How well does a 45gr Round Ball shoot in a 30-30 with only 2-3gr of Bullseye?

Minute of Bunny at 60 yards...

All I have ever asked of it...

My .30-30 is a 26" Marlin 1893 made in 1912, so I have a limited pool of guns as a sample...I have no idea how they will run in .30-30 with micro-groove rifling...

I DO know that .360" round balls are as accurate out of my MG barreled .35 Rem...

Before I started playing with round balls in my rifles, I asked over at Marlin Owners for advice...PapaJohn and Swany both had good input and experience...

I have a few boxes of 30cal and 32cal lead balls, for cap and ball pistol. I was going to use them as buckshot in 12ga shells.
I never thought of loading them into 30-30 brass.

The fastest powder I have is WST (discontinued Winchester Super Target).

Looks like you guys invented 30-30CB ammo.
I like it, MOB@60yd (minute of bunny) is more than enough for a uber quiet 30 cal round.

I am not 100% sure I am going to load 90gr XTPs atop 40gr of 748 but I will load up some of these 30-30CB rounds.

In the video they used lead balls loaded atop 1 and 3 grains of clays. Blast was like a 22CB. This makes me want to buy a pound of something really fast burning like clays, titewad, bullseye, AA#2 or reddot. Because I don't think I have much WST left.

light loads

You can even use lee 314-90-SWC in everything from the nagant, enfield, and .30-30 using bullseye from 2.5-4 grains with no fillers or any type of wad. Just size accordingly for your bore and plug away. Just make sure the load you work up doesn't stick in your bore and your good. Cheap shoots.:)
