I know there's been a lot of questions along the lines of "Can I use this primer in that cartridge" and typically one can typically use a magnum or even small rifle primer for a standard small pistol substitute, but typically not a good practice to try and go the other way of using a small pistol or magnum primer in a rifle cartridge. But 30 carbine being relatively low pressure and low powder capacity for a rifle, I was wondering if anyone had any experience using a small magnum pistol primer in a 30 carbine cartridge?
I have some small rifle primers, and will be using those before attempting any substitutes, but I have a buddy of mine who is in need of small rifle primers, and I would be willing to give him some if I can use some of my small magnum pistol to feed the M1 Carbine.

When I loaded the 30 carbine I use the Rem 6 1/2 SRP. Since it was recommend for the Hornet it worked perfect in the carbine. The Mag pistol primers should work just fine in the 30 carbine. Both run in the same pressure range.

I have read more than once that CCI small pistol magnum #550 and standard small rifle #400 are the same primers.

YMMV
