Hello all,
I am interested in a 30 carbine Ruger and I was wondering if anyone loaded specifically for the cartridge as a revolver cartridge.
Also does anyone load any sabot loads for the 30 carbine?
I am not a reloader, but I read about sabot loads for the 30 caarbine.

Any input is appreciated. :D

I remember the first time I saw a 30 carbine revolver. I was at a range where everyone was shooting handguns. Anything from 22 to 44 mag. We were shooting and suddenly there was a sound that seemed to go right through our ear protectors !! We stopped shooting and asked , what is that ? Ruger had just introduced the 30 carbine load for their revolvers. Yes the muzzle blast was incredible, similar to that of a hot loaded 32-20 or the newer 32 Mag. So if you don't like muzzle blast stick to a 357 which is far more useful.

i suppose if one did reload, a quicker (i.e. pistol) powder could be used, burning more completely inside the barrel, thus reducing the fireball effect.

i've never seen saboted rounds for the .30carb offered. have seen them for the 7.62x25mm and they look like a ball to shoot.

Based on my limited knowledge of hand/reloading the quicker the powder the higher the pressure and that you might end up exceeding the specified pressures for the revo.

But on the other hand, there's five fingers:D

There is always the cylinder gap to help relieve the pressure.

Yes I've loaded 30 carbine with my bro-in-law. He has a rifle as well. We've never tried for "reduced fireball" loads. We just run loads that work well in both.

If it helps: Most powders that work well in 357 work well in 30 carbine.

BigG, you would be right. It's actually fairly low flash compared to 296 or blue dot. For mild plinkers hogdons universal powder works well with very little flash.
Full power "lower than most-but still healthy" flash is best accomplished with VV N110, IME.

A little trivia to help with powder selection:

H110 was devolped specifically for 30 carbine IIRC. Ssooo.....anything that works well in a magnum pistol should preform well in 30 carbine. However, testing is required .
