Hello this is my first post on this site. I'm here to ask for some help. Awhile ago I came across a web site were the gunsmith converted Ruger gp-100 and S&W 686 to .30 carbine. Don't remember the site but have the gun and money for the conversion now. If anyone remembers please post.

Does Ruger still make the Blackhawk in .30 Carbine? Used to be mildly popular back a few years ago.

Taurus Raging Thirty for double action.

Ruger Blackhawk for single action.

AMT Automag III (AMT is out of business).

Does T/C make a Contender barrel? Maybe.

I have the Ruger and AMT, may get the Taurus one day. A 686 might be nice; the trigger could be made very sweet. Shoot any of these at an indoor range and you WILL attract attention. Attracts roughly the same attention as a 45/70 BFR revolver. Lots of noise, lots of flame.

I had the .30 carbine Ruger, Held the Taurus way too big. But I remember surfing a few years ago and found some one that turned the Gp-100 and 686's into 6 on seven shot .30's. Some of the details I think was a new cylinder nearly full lenght of the frame. The force cone was almost flush to the frame. Barrel I think was bored and sleeved for the .30. I don't remember if it used moon clips or not. But I have the money now and would love a medium frame double action with a 4" to 6" barrel. Cheap ammo and big fireballs with very flat flight paths.

I realize that this is a novelty. And we all probably have a few little odds and ends like this that we have to have to maintain our interest. But this is a big step down in performance going from .357 to .30 Carbine.
If you want some real fun, try this load out of your GP100 or 686 as they are presently configured. This load gives you better numbers out of the pistol than the .30 Carbine does out of a carbine.

Thank you Mec for the help but the article on the gunsmith that did the conversions still eludes me. I have two M-1 .30 carbines. Reloads with these two range from 86gr FMJ made for .30 Mauser to 130gr 30-30 flat nose. In a double action revolver like a 686 or gp-100 these loads should have some good performance though I doubt that the 130gr would do any more than be slightly flatter.

Having shot NEXT to one of the 30 cal rugers, I can only say WHAT, WHAT DID YOU SAY? HUH?

It is un-believably loud, even with plugs and phones it is loud. DO NOT be the shooter NEXT to the bloody thing!

(it was a lot of FUN to shoot though.....)

the only Taurus I would buy would be the 30Carbine but that is provided that it could make use of the 30 cal 125grn TNT or the 110grn Vmax.

I want a 30cal. revolver for busting vermin out to 75-100 yards, but the varmint bullets may have an ogive that is too long/pointy to work with the Taurus cylinder length.

Had a Rger for a time years ago.

Shot it once with no ears. Big mistake, never again.

Big fireballs ot the front with military srplus ammo.

Accrate, but harsh.

My "u" isn't working well...
