300 BLK/powder woes

I haven't verified. I know next to nothing about buffers. Googling for Net Wisdom just confused me. If it helps to determine which buffer, the lower is from my Bushmaster 5.56 mm rifle - unmodified except to put on the CMMG upper.

If the gas isn't enough to cycle the bolt carrier group and buffer, lightening things up may help. Auto BCG's are heavier than semi BCG's.

Your rifle probably came with a standard weight carbine buffer if it has an adjustable stock. If you were running a heavier buffer you could try a lighter one.

Well, walkalong, I was going to wait awhile to learn more about 300 AAC, but my 5.7x28mm testing has been stalled (waiting for new dies).

So I'm going to break out a couple of new toys and join you guys soon. Casting pot, lead ingots, Lee 220gr 300AAC molds, and my brand new Redding 300 AAC sizing dies are all here and begging to be used. :)

I'm going for subsonic only on a CMMG carbine gas length upper for now. CMMG discourages use of supersonics in my upper; I'm sure there's a good reason for it, that'll I'll probably end up ignoring and snapping a bolt carrier in half at some point. But I want to get a 220gr load to work properly first, before doing anything else. I also have 240gr lead cast bullets I bought as well, but 220's will be first.

Anyway, if you don't mind, I'll post my loads and results as I go here? Or I can make a new thread. Your call.

Either way is good with me.

I guess I need to try some 168 or 175s. I have some pulled 175 SMKs I bought fairly reasonable about a year and a half or so ago. Ramshot shows data for 5744 & 1680. I wonder why they do not show any data for bullets heavier than 155 Grs with Enforcer? I have all three of those in limited quantities.

I have a correction to my prior post. The exact CMMG upper I have is here (long url click here).

I have a *pistol* length gas system, not a *carbine* length gas system.

I wanted a subsonic ONLY rifle which is why I chose that one. (Too much compromise to get a 300 blackout to shoot both, from everything I've read on it.)

This is my rifle with that CMMG upper:

Still trying to pick out an optic for it. I may end up throwing a Vari-X III on it just for load development so there's less question about my questionable aim with irons or non-magnified optic. :)

Sorry for the mis-statement I made earlier in post #28.

FYI, the "compatibility" chart that Midway has listed for CMMG uppers is here:

I slide this scope/rings/mount set on my 300 BLK to test accuracy at 100 yards or more. Slip it back off and install the 3X when I am done. I shot one of my best groups after I put the 3X back on last time out though.

The Simmons 6.5X20 is in Zee Rings on YHM mounts. I can slide it on and off and the POI will be very close to where it was. Within an inch or less generally. It is sitting on top of the safe right now.

Ooh good point. You just reminded me that I got quick throw rings for mounting my Leupold Mark 4 on my SCAR17. :)

Don't know if the rail on the CMMG upper is long enough to do a direct transplant and if the eye relief will work out right, but it's worth a shot. I could move the rings around a little to try to fit both rifles.
