I decided to test some new 180 grain Hornady SST bullets from my 300 WM. As you will see, one was loaded to the cannalure and one 15 thou from the lands, just to see what the difference would be over a chrono. As follows:
Load 1. 180 Hornady SST
Loaded to book length/cannalure
65.0 grains IMR 4350
Federal 215M match primers
New Peterson brass
Velocity 2863 fps
ES 13
SD 6
No pressure signs
Load 2. 180 Hornady SST
loaded 15 thou off lands
65.0 grains IMR 4350
Federal 215M match primers
New Peterson brass
Velocity 2876 fps
ES 12
SD 6
No pressure signs
All were shot out of a warm barrel, temp in the mid 80s.
Weatherby Vangurad II 26" barrel
Yes I know the Velocity might be a little low for that 180 but fir a white tail round I think it fine with those groups. Not much difference in the data from loading out vs book.
