300 Win Mag questions

Hi all, just a quick question or two here on my 300 win mag. So, i bought the Hornady LNL headspace gauge kit, my queston is which collar do i use for the 300 win mag caliber?

Also, does anyone know if you can use a large magnum rifle primer when loading with H4831sc powder?

I'd be glad to see some of the recipes you guys use with this powder and caliber...results?suggestions? I'm all ears gang!! thanks, hvychev77

The chart on the Hornady www says to use the .420" bushing for .300 Win Mag.

I think I would use a magnum primer for 300 mag + H4831SC but what does your manual say?

i have always used the IMR line up of powders. i always use magnum primers in IMR 4831 and 7828, which are what i mostly use in mine. been doing so for more than 20 years. i do use some quicker powders for light bullets, but i also use standard primers in those.

well, i haven't looked at my manual to see what primer it says to use. I have used IMR7828 for the last 2 years, and it's done well. I was just in the mood to branch out a bit, and see what develops. Is 4831 a fast powder than IMR7828? I just wanna make sure i got my ducks in a row before pullin' the trigger.....

let me answer my own question here........looks like on hogdgon's website ranks H4831sc as #125, and IMR as #132. Is that much of a difference as far as using a magnum primer? Thanks guys.........hvychev77
