So, i've been using IMR7828 in my 300 Win Mag for the last couple of years, and i'm fairly satisfied with it. i am curious as to what others may recommend as far as powders? My best recipe so far....

180 grain Nosler Accubond
74.5 grains of IMR 7828
Win. Mag. rifle primer
COL 3.340 (i think this is right, i don't have recipe in front of me)

What other powders do ya'll use? what kind of results?
I'm using a Remington 700.

Cheers, hvychev77

Had real good luck with H4350.

H1000 is pretty good, too.

H4831SC is my current favorite.

As far as results, on my last (factory) barrel towards the end, I was shooting 0.92" 10 shot groups at 300 yards with H4350. Barrel fouled horribly though due to throat erosion - had to clean it every shot. :)

I rebarrelled with a Krieger, and haven't got QUITE as good of results yet; but then again, I also haven't worked through a lot of development on it yet. It's currently shooting ~1.5" 10 shot groups at 300 yards with H4831SC.

Keep in mind, I use full prepped brass, to get consistent velocity (very low standard deviation), and have my OAL set to a hair back from the lands.

Don't know how my loads stack up against factory match ammo, I've never shot a single factory 300 Win Mag round out of my rifle in the 14 years I've owned it. But where I ended up with rolling my own was not disappointing in the least. :)

Like Trent said. H4831Sc is current powder of choice. I have used IMR 4831 and RL-19 in the past with good results.

Mr Trent, please tell us more about that rifle. What make and model? I'd like to have one like it. When you shot that .92" at 300 yards were you cleaning between shots? I many have misunderstood. Add any other helpful info too please, like scope, rests, etc.
Thanks

thanks for the info. guys. i haven't done a lot of research on other powders until now. still, where i live at, the last few days it's been 100 degrees plus! so, i'm not too anxious to get out there to the range yet. Just doin' a little digging.

Mr. Trent, i too would be interested to hear some more data on the rifle you're speaking of as well. Sounds like a solid goal to get back to.

My current favorite for .300 is Hybrid 100v for 180gr. loads. Very little velocity change from temperature, and 300 yard groups off a bench are well under MOA. Temperature stability is a big issue for me. I load and practice in the Alabama summertime, and hunt in much cooler weather with no appreciable difference in POI. I like H1000 for heavier bullets, but really only becuase I haven't found good data for Hybrid 100v for the big pills. I think I've tried most of the popular magnum rifle powders with acceptable results. My Savage just seems to like to make small groups with anything but 150gr. FMJ bullets.

Sorry was on vacation for the last couple of weeks.

Savage 112 w/ Choate stock, harris bipod, Leupold VX-III scope. Full brass prep (neck turning, primer pocket / flash hole uniforming, weighed casings, weighed bullets, was using Sierra 220 gr MK)

By the time I found what load worked best, I'd shot the barrel out. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500-1700 rounds. Was fouling bad, had to clean it every few shots to keep any sort of group together. Throat was eroded BAD. (Had to work my rounds long to compensate)

Mounted a Krieger barrel this year. Haven't got it back to that level of accuracy yet. Takes lots of time with that level of brass prep. :(
