Which Nitro do you have? At the closeout prices I keep looking at the FFP 2-10 for a hunting rifle and 4-16 for a range/prarie dog AR. The reticles look decent, I'm curious if the 2-10 reticle would even be useable at low power, or if it would just disappear into the background.

I think all the ffps are illuminated, which helps on lower powers.

I have the 5-20x44 sfp, and the reticle even in a ffp should work as a crosshair at least.

Been looking at that Vortex and the Athlon HMR

I really like the HMR I brought in for a friend, it's got second gen glass and coatings, and is actually nicer than my first gen BTR, which is optically one of, if not the nicest scope i own.

The value of the vortex viper PST gen 1 cannot be beat. You can get it 4-16
For 450 bucks. 6 - 24 under $500 first focal plane for both.
But if your main use for the rifle is hunting
And you're not planning on using it mostly four shots beyond 200 yards I would not recommend a 6 by 24.
I thought if you're planning on doing target shooting for hunting sheep out west then that's 6 by 24 first focal plane it's a no-brainer
