Hello all,
I want to start reloading for my 300wm and was originally planning on using Reloader 22, but I can not find it anywhere locally. I have been looking through my manuals and there seems to be a lot of good data available for H4831. I have checked and can get a couple of pounds of H4831SC locally. Has anyone had good results using H4831 with 150 and/or 180gr bullets?

Thanks ahead of time

Don't know about 300WM but H4831 shoots well for me in 7mm Rem mag.
I say would say give it try.
Rifles have minds of there own so until you try it you have no idea what your rifle will like.
(other than Murphy's law which would say it will like the 4th or 5th thing you try best;))

Plenty other options. I used to use IMR 4064 for 150's because that's what I had on hand. If I remember correctly my accurate load was right around 3200 fps. Out of my gun. And barrel. And manufacturer. And rifle. Lol a lot of variables.

But back to OP, H4831 is just fine for 300wm. With 150's or 180's. And 200's. And 220's. Decent all around powder for the Magnum in my limited experience with it.

Now with the "SC" variant I'm not sure if it burns the same as plain old H4831. So maybe someone will chime in on that.

h4831s a little slow for the lighter bullets but works fine for middle to heavy. I tend to use heavy bullets in my .300s so go even slower with h1000 or even retumbo when running 200+

I use H4831SC over FED215s for 165s, 168s and 180s in .300WM, haven't gone as light as 150s.

No issues with the weights I listed.

I recently did some limited testing using powders I have in my cabinet and 180 gr. bullets in an 300 WM AB3. Powders were IMR4350, RL17, IMR4831, H4831 (not SC) and Magpro. Based on what I saw, IMR4350, RL17, and IMR4831 exhibited potential for the best accuracy. I decided to continue with IMR4350 and RL17 for now. Just an observation, but the 2 slowest powders, H4831 and Magpro were not as accurate as the faster burn rate powders in my application.

H4831 is way too old fashioned. In fact, I think it was invented way back in the early ‘50s - before anyone ever heard of the 300 Win Mag.;)
Just kidding around. I no longer have a 300 Win Mag, but as you probably already know, the 308 Norma Mag is virtually a twin to the 300 Win Mag, and H4831 is all I use in my own 308 Norma Mag. For everything from pronghorns to elk, I use 76.0grs of H4831 and a CCI LRM primer behind a Sierra, 165gr HPBTs.
I won’t bore you with chronograph data (3,100+fps) and group sizes (-1”@100). I’ll just say this - with my rifle, the above load is fast, accurate and deadly. And it shows no signs of over pressure.:)
