Got a hunt booked at the King Ranch in late October for Nilgia Deer. Was planning to take My 7 Ultra Mag but decided instead to take the 300 WSM. I have had the gun for a couple months. Haven’t had time to even put a scope on it. But that will be on it this week. Wondering what bullets anyone might be using in the 180-200 gr range. Got plenty of brass, powder and primers and some 165 SST Hornady. But would like a heavier Bullet.

Seems to me to be a very bad time to add a scope, develop a load, (with bullets being scarce) and practicing for a hunt in just over two months. Do you have a scope on your 7 mm and a load for that rifle?

I have a Savage 300 WSM rifle. Had fair results with the factory WIN load using the 200 grain Combined Technologies bullets that were factory loaded. So purchased a few boxes and went to the range to load develop. 65.1 grains of AA4350 gave just under 3000 FPS with better than 1/2 MOA consistently but was only shooting 200 YDS max, so theres that. Did not appear compressed if I settled the charge by tapping the case on the bench prior to seating but was a good case full non the less.

Yeah hope you can find everything to start loading this caliber. Took me 6 months of scouring the net to find a bunch of additional once fired brass but this was quite a few years ago.

Got plenty of components to load the 300. Just been so busy at work to load any. Looking at options. A friend already has some loads he uses I’m going to try in mine. Yes. The 7 Ultra is ready to go. But want to use a heavier Bullet in 30 Cal than I’ve been using in the 7 Ultra.

Thanks for that input. And already have on hand everything I need to load several different combinations. Have several different bullets I’m going to try.
Again Thanks for the replies!!!

I have been shooting a .300RSAUM for 15 years with a 180gr Hornady Interbond and it gets an exit on everything it hits. Barnes bullets would be a good selection for that animal too I would think

The SST is made to come apart easy. I have some friends that killed Nilgai years ago and they said they are tough as a Brahma bull to bring down.
