Hi guys,
I would like to know if Alliant RL15 is a suitable powder for said
rifle (150 gr. bullet). Also, any other powder reccomendations would be welcome.
Thanks,

Bob

Do not use RL15 in an M1. Garand experts say to never use anything slower than IMR4064. (RL15 is slower than 4064).

I think the rule is

4320 and slower is bad. 4350 ok. I think 4895 is faster than 4064, no?

I use IMR4895, IMR4064, and AA2520.........check out the Accurate Arms reloading manual and they have loads for the M1 and other service rifles with the correct powder in the manual...

Cheygriz is right about 4895, but when I had an M-1, I used enough 4064 to give a 150 grain bullet ~2700 fps (i.e., original .30 M-1906 ballistics). It was accurate and recoil was less than M-2 Ball equivalent loads.

Be advised if you go with SURPLUS 4895 that it is a skosh (tad, wee bit, small amount, etc.) hotter than commercial IMR 4895. I use it and love it, but load it down a tad and work up.
