Any suggestions for a varmint load for the .303 British. I know that this isn't exactly a varmint caliber. But I want to use it for taking a jackrabbit. The round should be able to drop one at considerable distance. I just want a load that isn't too "heavy."

Has anyone tried Varget in this round? What about the lighter bullets? A little guidance would be much appreciated.

You might want to look into the 123 gr. bullets intended for 7.62x39. It seems like there were some loadings in the Hornday manual that got up to about 3000 fps. You may have to single-load them since they may not be long enough to fit in the magazine.

Hodgdon online shows a 125 grain .311 bullet using 45 grains of Varget and a C.O.L. of 2.915" with a MV of 2766. I hope that helps. If you want something slower you might experiment with half loads of Trailboss, but they don't give data.

I've had very good accuracy with 125 gr. .310 hollow base fmj with H335 loaded to about 2700. Very mild and accurate. YMMV.

I've used the Sierra Pro-Hunter 125 grain bullets, and sent them sailing at roughly 2800 feet-per-second with IMR 4895 and IMR 3031.

I'm pretty confident that would mangle any pesky rabbits for you, but you definitely don't need that kind of power to take care of it.

I'll PM you something.

Try the south african made 75gr impala bullets, they are only on spesial order but I get 3500f/s out of them in my P14 303
