I recently saw a local ad for a ".303 British rifle, made in Ishapore 1955, was still in cosmoline when i bought it,shoots great.". The add didnt give a price. Im sure the rifle is a SMLE Mk III or Rifle, No. 1 Mk III what ever you want to call it, since that was the only .303 rifle made in Ishapore. Does anyone know what quality are these rifles, and acording to that breif description what a fair price should be? Thanks.

Ishapores are 2A's in .308 and Mk1 III's in .303, NOT SMLE's. If it is in good shape with a good bore it is worth $175 TOPS. If you can get it for $150 and it is in great shape I would call that a good deal. AIM surplus sells rough ones for $99 last I saw.

I may have been wrong. I found this info.

Ishapore-made .303 calibre SMLE Mk III* rifles have appeared with 1980s manufacture dates suggesting that it may still be manufactured in the Indian sub-continent. Attempts to contact the Ishapore Rifle Factory to confirm this have been unsuccessful. However, re-arsenaled rifles on the Indian sub-continent often have all old markings scrubbed off, and a new marking added, so there is some debate as to whether 1980s-dated SMLEs are actually newly-made, or simply re-arsenaled.

IMHO grab it $200 down good price. But I'm just crazy about .303 I have a No1 Mk 3 and couldn't be happier. I bought mine about 10yrs ago for $75 in excellent condition.

I bought a wire-wrap no1MkII* a few years ago for around $140. Its a good rifle, bore looked new. The chamber is a lot more generous than on any of my no4s though.
