Well my father-in-law wants me to reload his 303 savage. I called RCBS and the dies will cost $143. :what:. Well if he is willing to pay for it I sure don't mind reloading. Does anyone have any load date for the 303 savage?

First off, get yourself a good loading manual that has the .303 in it. Go by what it says. Go on the Lee website and see if they have the .303 dies at a lesser cost. I hope you have lots of empty brass, because it is a bastard case, not easy to find, not easy to make.

Norma is the only one making brass, and it is over a buck a pop!
And the cases won't last forever in a Savage 99 action either!

Finding load data in most any modern manual is not going to happen.
The only one I know of is the Lee Second edition.
It has powder company reprints from several sources.

A Lee Pacesetter die set for .303 Savage is $27.99 at Midway, but are out of stock right now.

Also be aware that they are not really a .303 / .311" caliber at all.

They actually use .30 caliber /.308" bullets.

Redding also makes .303 Savage Dies, somewhere around $60 last I knew. I have a good friend who loads .303 all the time. As a general rule of thumb, ..30-30 loads reduced by 10-15% are OK in the .303 Savage. I believe the Lee (by Richard "I glorify my products, they are so much better than anyone else's" Lee) Manual has some .303 loads and the 2008 Hodgdon Manual (the magazine that costs @ $6.95) has a couple of loads.

Hodgdon online Reloading Data Center
http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp
has one load listed for 170 grain soft point bullet.

Interestingly, it is significantly higher than the same power and bullet in .30-30.
You better stick to published data. Your dad's rifle deserves great care.

Call Lee directly for those dies. Midway doesn't stock every die. Only the ones that move.

Did he save any of his own brass over the years? If not, I would go ahead and buy the brass and the dies, and use the Hodgdon data. He probably won't shoot often enough to wear out all that brass.

I have a lyman mold I use in 30/06 it is the 303 marked 311291.
midsouthshooters list the 303 savage at $25.:uhoh::D
