I am extremely unfamiliar with 308 rounds.

I have semi-mastered my 9mm and 300blk loads over the past few months thanks to you guys and want to get down to business with my Remington 700 308

Also, for people that shoot 308 suppressed, is it common to shoot 308 subsonic? Just looking for some direction... Thanks

I'd guess starting with a very heavy for caliber bullet 220gr or more if available.
Powder and load choice? I'm not sure, but I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Also, if you plan to use the load with a supressor, make sure the barrel twist if fast enough to stabilize heavy bullets and test the load before running it through the supressor. It would be unfortunate to have a baffle strike.

Do not fill it up with trailboss for a subsonic, as a matter a fact you're only supposed to max fill a case to 70% using trailboss. Using a 200 - 220gr bullet and 10-11gr of trailboss. Start higher with the charge and work backwards, you don't want to stick a bullet in the bore.

Subsonic is somewhere below 1100 fps. That's a real slow load.

Why Not a reduced load around 12-1300 fps? Is there some reason you want sub sonic speeds?

I've been looking at loading some reduced loads for my 270 win using either Unique or Red Dot. If i had a few more sources on the Red Dot i would use it since i have plenty and no Unique.

Anyhow i was hoping to start with jacketed rounds and see what i can do before moving on to casting a few .277 rounds.

I'd like to see where this goes...till then stay safe and good luck!

It takes 9.2 grains of Trail Boss to take a 200 grain cast lead bullet to just barely below Mach 1 in my 308 with an 8" silencer attached.

I use 150 grain plated bullets from xtreme.

A Lake City .308 case and Winchester primers.

Start at about 10 grains of trail boss and work your way down by .5 grain increments. The opposite of working up a load.

This avoids getting a bullet stuck in your barrel until the 1050-1100 FPS is achieved.

I believe the total cost will be around $.15 a round.

For range fun, I load 150-180 gr. cast bullets over 8-10 grs of Red Dot, depending on bullet and caliber.

My .308 is a joy to shoot with C312-155 cast sized to .310, tumble lubed and seated over 9-10 grs. Red Dot. It rings steel at 100 yards with authority and is a joy for small framed youngsters to shoot.

Barrel life at this pressure is about 2 million rounds.
