Thinking a .308 may be in the future. Looking closely at the FN FAL or the CETME guns. Is there any reason why to chose one over the other. Ok no wars here if there are any hard feelings between the two groups. I just know very little on those two and have seen them alot....and both very sexy

I built a FAL out of parts kit, specified number of US parts to meet requirements of idiotic import ban signed by Bush Sr, and an Imbel receiver. My kit was broken all the way down to the roll pins, and I assembled everything except for the barrel onto the receiver.

Since I wanted a rifle and not a grenade, I had a good gunsmith do that last tricky part for me.

Here's why I went FAL.

1) An M-14 costs twice as much as the FAL.

2) 20 round FAL mags cost about $5 each, at least the metric pattern ones.

3) Nintey-something countries had to know something was good to adopt the FAL as their main battle rifle.

4) Parts and mags easier to get hold of than CETMEs.

I love my FAL. I can shoot about two-inch to three-inch groups with it off a rest at 100 yards. But hey, it's a battle rifle, not a sniper rifle. And 3 MOA shooting means you can still hit a gallon-milk-jug sized target at 300 yards

FAL or CETME? I figure the answer to your question is just YES.

Hey, if you get a real deal on a CETME, why not just get both?

I was looking at both and chose to get another L1A1 metric instead. I love the symmetry and simplicity of the FAL. The CETME seemed foreign. I believe the CETME has a G3 upper.

FMJ - may I humbly suggest that you need to find a better partner, if firing your FAL is more fun.

But then again, maybe you've just been married for a long time ! :D

I have no need for better sox even though I have been married for ....a few years. After firing bolts, levers and single shots, it is always exiciting to pull out the FAL and send 20 steaming, accurate rounds down range as fast as I care to pull the trigger. The recoil is nil (a gentle push), the power is 2,700 fps and 2,700 fpe, accurate, and I DO NOT HAVE A BUFFER SPRING SINGING THE MATTEL SONG IN MY CHEEK (like the AR). I loved the Army, but I could not stand the M16.

If you're only building one rifle have someelse barrel, unless you can borrow all the wrenches, headspacing gages, and jigs. My friend had all the stuff and things, so I barrelled mine correctly the first time :)

I own em both. Definitly FAL; goota be inch patern though, as metric would be "IMPROPER" Metrics are kinda like gay sex, I'm sure it's good, it's just not for me! The DAG.:D
