Went out and shot 1 five round group at 500 yards today. I am pretty happy with the results!

Thanks for doing that with the program thing

Factory Rem 700 SPS Varmint, hand loads.

Awesome job. That is a combination of the rifle and operator both doing their job. Very impressive. Be proud, be very proud. I know people that shoot their whole lives and can never achieve that grouping.

Thanks guys, that is the First and only group i have tried shooting at 500 yards. More to come. I am itching to go try it again. and see how it will do. The trigger on this rifle is horrible. It breaks clean but has an 8 pound pull.

Im afraid it might change when I get my new stock, Being that it is NOT free floated right now. Do you guys think floating it will effect the accuracy? Silly question i know. but seriously, this rifle has shot better then i thought it could already...

nice shooting, clayne. the x-mark trigger on my 700p was the same. broker nice and clean but was really heavy. i swapped it out for a timney, and haven't looked back.

mind sharing you load specs?

168gr amax 15 thousands off the lands
43.5gr Varget Powder
Remington once fired brass, full length sized
Fed gold metal match primers

Do you guys think floating it will effect the accuracy?

Probably. You're floating the barrel and changing the contact between action and stock; I would be surprised if you didn't see changes on target.

Is this rifle floated, but with a flimsy stock or is the stock/barrel contact by design?

Before giving up on the factory trigger, try adjusting it or better yet, talk to your smith about going through it. Factory Rem triggers can be made to feel very good IMHO.

it is contacting buy design. I can not get the sear engagement screw loose.... :banghead:

99 percent of people i've talked to or read of trying to adjust the factory trigger have had problems.

thanks for the load data. i've been shooting 168gr smk over varget. i've found two nodes one quite low at 42 gr. once fired fed brass and fgm primers. haven't gotten into loading at different lengths yet.
