Hi guys, could someone please tell me is there a difference between loading known brands of bullet compared to a generic bullet,I reload my 308 purely for paper punching, mainly for 100 - 200 yards.I have the lymans 49 and also the Lee second edition, but both seem to name the brand of bullet.the bullets I use are 150 gr FMJ Prvi Partizan ( ppu).
I have a 2lb can of VihtaVuori N140 which I would like to try but as I stated, the manuals give only specific brands of bullet,or should I except 150gr FMJ is sufficient info to load with

Just use the 150gr bullet info in the Lyman's manual for your bullet. In most cases, it doesn't matter what make the bullet is, as long as it is the same weight. Exceptions are, if either of the bullets are of a unique construction (ie. not your normal copper-clad lead construction).

Accuracy may be one. Berger & Serria have worked well for me. As far as powder charge, use a starting load & work up as always.

thanks guy, I always work up the load, tho I do admit sometimes to start off middle range, maybe thats wrong and I will bough to your superior knowledge if so. I always trim to length after sizing, I weigh each powder throw and seat to the recommended length, never had a problem, but the more I read the more I realise what could go wrong, and so the question on generic bullets.

I buy Remington 147 Grain FMJ (M-89 ball) in 1000 packs. Unless you're shooting high level competition, it's the near perfect "practice"' bullet. Especially loaded with H335, H380 or BLC-#2. :p
