I just bought a .308 and have some reloading questions. I have a lee classic turret press and have experiance reloading for pistols but have never reloaded for rifle. Im looking for target shooting at 100-400 yards Questions:

1) how much more difficult is it to reload rifle? Aside from dies do I need any extra equipment? Are there extra steps?

2) what bullet weight/brand should I consider?

3) any specific load recommendations?

4) I have a bunch of bullseye powder, any good loads with it?

5) what is your cost per round for reloading?

it isn't really more difficult. you will need a way to trim cases and a way to lube cases.

2) what bullet weight/brand should I consider?

depends on what you wanna do with the rifle, of course

3) any specific load recommendations?

that would depend on the bullet you choose and what you wanna do.

4) I have a bunch of bullseye powder, any good loads with it?

except in some limited cases, the same powders you used for handgun ammo will not be used for bottleneck rifle ammo. your reloading manual should've shown you this. you do have one that you've read, right?

5) what is your cost per round for reloading?

depends on what kind of loads i'm putting together.

150-170 I like the 168Amax. Varget, H4895, BLC2, look in loading books or Hodgdon online for load data. RCBS or Imperial wax for sizing. You may not need to trim. Set die for proper HS. .05 powder, .05 primer, .025-.030 for decent bullet. Check for online reload cost calculator.

Holly craps!!

You better buy yourself a good reloading manual, and read it several times through before you get ready to reload .308 rifle!!
Especially the chapter about powder burn rates.

Bullseye powder in a .308 is a pipe bomb!!

Have a manual just haven't read the section on rifles yet. Wanted to get some feedback here first. Thanks.

The .308 is probably one of the best rounds out there in regards to accuracy. I'd go buy some gold medal match ammo and see how it shoots in your rifle. If your rifle isn't accurate with that stuff, well then, your rifle isn't accurate.

Be sure and don't skip the section on powders & powder selection either.
And primers too.

You are playing with fire.
Literally.

That's the best advice for a 308 and is true more often than not.

There are so many bullets that shoot well in my 308s. Enough good combinations out there that you probably couldn't shoot them all in a year..SMKs, AMaxes, Scenars, and most every hunting bullet can be loaded to shoot well in a 308.

One of my favorite cartridges.

I find reloading for rifle to be quite a bit more time-consuming than reloading for pistol.

With most pistol rounds, you can pretty much take your empties straight from the ejection port to the case feeder, pull the handle a lot, and have more rounds to shoot.

With rifle rounds--especially when full-length sizing--there are extra steps that add up: trimming, chamfering, cleaning off good resizing lube ... The good news is it's worth the effort.
