308 projectile choice , looking to start loading for 308, whats a good all purpose
150 gr projectile , Hornady interlock BTSP, Sierra Game King ??? FMJ ??
will be used for target shooting mostly but would want it to work well for hunting medium game if needed to.
Thanks all

My favorite and my Remington 700's favorite is the Sierra 168gr hpbt Match. I have had good luck with Varget powder.

You have to find what your gun likes. For my Savage .308, in 150-grain bullets, Hornady SST's and Sierra Game Kings shoot great.

My vote is for the Interlock. My personal choice for 308 is the 165 grain flat base spire point, it works just fine on elk and is affordable to practice with.

Well I guess it depends on Hunting or Target and once we choose one of those we evolve to budget. Good bullets, really good accurate bullets for hunting or target have increased in price with everything else. I likely load more .308 Winchester than any other cartridge and it is followed by .223 Remington. I like loading Sierra bullets to include their 150 grain Match King FMJBT or at lesser cost the 150 gr FMJBT, followed by the 168 gr FMJBT Match and the 175 gr FMJBT. I also like Speer, Hornady and Nosler in similar weights and styles.

Really depends on what you want? A hunting bullet for game or a match quality target bullet for accurate target shooting? On the cheap or lower end are the 147 to 150 grain FMJ bullets.

Generally speaking really good quality target bullets like the Sierra Match King do not fare well for hunting, however, you can find hunting bullets that fare OK (not great) for target shooting.

All Sierra Match King bullets have hollow points. They're not FMJBT's but FMJHP's. Some newer ones have a plastic tip inserted in cleaned up and trued hollow points.

I would go with 165 Gamekings for their excellent accuracy and wicked terminal performance.

Sst, hot cor, or interlock for an all around 150gr. Gamekings, Speer btsp, or the pro hunter might be very accurate but a bit fragile for all around use depending on how you define that for the weight in this Caliber.

150 grain all purpose? The Sierra 150 gr Spitzer and Spitzer BT depending on range. Impossible to say what will shoot best in your or any rifle.

I've taken deer, elk and moose with one shot with Speer 150 BTSP.

I use Remington or Winchester147 FMJ ( M80 ball) for the range. Less expensive and shoots quite well.

You aren't gonna get a consensus. There are simply too many good options and very few bad ones. The cheapest bullet that I've found that offers good accuracy, good BC's and is a good deer round is the Hornady SST. But there are no bad choices so far.

Thanks guys just picked up some Hornady 150gr BTSP interlock will try a few
loads with this :)

For future reference, for what it's worth, I use the 165 Gameking hollow points for both .308 and 30-06. Devastating on deer and as accurate as Matchkings at 200 yards. And cheaper.

155g Hornady AMAX. Hard to beat the quality, cost, accuracy and performance of the AMAX. They're intended to be target bullet but people do hunt with them as well. You can google "hunting, AMAX" and read scads of testimonials and arguments for/against so I'm not meaning to start that up here.

I will chime in---a bit late---though. If 100 YDS or less I prefer the Cor Lokt .308 with the Interlock or Hot Cor coming in a close second. Both are a good choice that balance cost/accuracy well for both target and game use. If you step up in price a bit there are a LOT of better options out there. IMHO at 150 YDS or less the difference for most shooters will be hard to detect however. The bulk FMJ pulls will be way less accurate in my experience so be aware of that also.
