So I was searching the net for cheap ammo, I was just wondering what you all thought of Silver Bear .308win 145grn SJSP ammo for target shooting up to about 300 yards. I am also wondering what you all thought about the powder/copper fouling and any other remarks about the ammo. The cheapest I found it online was at:

http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Silver_Bear_.308_145grn_SJSP.html

Cost of 500 rounds is about 150 dollars.

Thanks folks

wow thats a good price!!!! im going to get them just for the hell of it!!! cant go wrong with 30 cents a shell

Sounds tempting but I don't know...

I prefer "better" ammo for my "western" guns.
Commie ammo for commie guns, brass cased for anything else is my rule.

This stuff is hardly "poor quality commie trash" only suit for "low-quality commie guns". It's good ammo. I've used it in my FAL and seen it used in M1As. It's got better accuracy than wolf, plus it's SP.

Go for it.

Check ammotogo.com. Seen it there! Never used the .308 but I like and shoot a good amount of other Barnaul ammo. Always been pretty good.

500rds of that stuff for $150 is a good price. If I'd seen it, there would have been a few cases on their way to me. Good stuff in my opinion.

I tried it in my Savage 10FP and the accuracy was fine for the one shot I was able to get off. The case expanded enough so that I could not get the bolt open. I had to wait until I got home and use a cleaning rod to knock it out. It may work fine for a rifle with looser tolerances.

I've shot a bit of Wolf .308, and I like it better than their .223. My CETME and my Ishy Enfield shoot the stuff quite accurately. So if this is better than Wolf, its OK for me.

But both the Mak and the guns that usually chamber 7.62x39 are made to function with steel cases.
I've never seen problems with them and steel cased ammo but I have seen them with "western" guns and steel cases.

Still, I'd be tempted to try a box of this stuff if it was available locally.
