hey everyone, so i'v been thinking about whether or not it is practical to make a .308 cal tavor. on the one hand, i think the tavor might be too light, so the recoil (or muzzle jump rather) would not be manageable. I know that the early m14 was too light to use .308's and the recoil was insane... at least that's what i heard, so please correct me if i am wrong.
on the other hand, the tavor is a bullpup. i do not have a lot of experience with firing bullpups, but i heard that there is less muzzle jump because of the way that the barrel goes into the stock, and the weight distribution of the gun.
anyhoo, any info. on this would be greatly appreciated.

You can make a .308 bullpup. There is no mechanical or physical reason why you can't. It has been done before.

I designed a kit to bullpup an FAL. Got half way through the project, decided there wasn't a big enough market to justify the expense, and set it aside. Still have the sheetmetal prototype sitting in my basement.

Now the Tavor is a very specific design from IMI. But there is no reason that it couldn't be scaled up to .308.

Look at all the .50 bullpups. Im sure a 308 would be fine. Any pics of the fal bullpup? Id be interested.

This thread inspired me to do some looking around. Though not based directly on the Tavor, there have been attempts at making an M1A/M14 bull-pup rifle that predate it.

Here is one link from this board, what looks homemade:

and a couple more pictures of the AWC:

But as DMK mentions in the first link, the M1A/M14 is such a nice looking rifle the way it is, why ruin it?

well, i am not concerned with it being a bullpup, the dsr-1 is a bullpup. my concern is whether or not it would be too light. bacause if the rifle is too light, than there will be too much recoil.
