Anyone seen see thru 30mm mounts/rings for a AII ( same as L579 ) short action .243 cal. or has anyone any knowledge where a custom set could be machined ? Thanks.

I wouldn't bother with see-thru rings. Asking for trouble with cheekweld. Maybe a set of QD rings if you must be able to access the iron sights quickly?

Yes beginning to lean that way. Not even QR but just solid optilocks and be done. Thanks for the reply.

That is the only way to go!!

See-Through scope rings are the spawn on the devel as far as proper cheek weld and fast accurate shooting is concerned.

Modern scopes are so reliable there is less chance of them breaking on a hunt then iron sights getting whacked up side a tree or something.

(Unless you lean them up against your truck and run over them when you drive off.)

And to add just a smidgen to what RC said, those rings sitting so high above the barrel don't do justice for a nice flat shooting cartridge like .243.

Oh, and if you invest in decent glass like Leupold or Vortex, even if you do drive over them, the company will replace them for you at no charge.

Well, sorry guys. I think cheek weld is over rated. I've used see through rings and found them quite adequate for close up shooting and was able to get good accuracy with them. The only think I don't like about them is how high they place the scope.

Exactly, that's the main problem with them. If your scope is mounted high enough to be able to use iron sights, it means you can't get a solid, consistent cheek weld with your scope. And the key to being accurate with a scope is a solid, consistent cheek weld.

Thanks everyone, have gone with opilocks and will fore-go see thrus. Good shooting to all.

For a hunting rifle, I tend to agree that quick release aren't needed. It's not like the deer are shooting back at you if your optic breaks.

Love it ! I even have an old Ethrane vaporizor. That was an old favorite for me ( before Suprane) !:)

Side arm vernitrols was where I started and we were still dripping some ether, just before the total ban ( took home a few cans for starting engines in deep frigid ND weather ) When the vaporizers came out it was sure an up-grade. Remember cyclopropane, fast and deadly, whew glad that was replaced. ( we still had Helium on the machines for breaking spasms and for use with asthma ) Ultane-mask inductions, Suprane everything else in my final years. Retired now and happy to be out of the fray. 45 years starting in 1970. Quit counting at 30,000 cases and procedures.:what::eek::cuss::banghead:;)

Thank you and you too, sounds like you passed some gas also. Take care and happy shooting for years to come.
