I saw something in another thread that made me curious. Assuming that I slugged the bore and came out with something between .311-.314, and I used 85-100gr bullets, would it be possible and safe to load those bullets in a light load for a Mosin Nagant? I don't know if, being handgun bullets, they'd handle any significant increase in velocity, or if they'd stablize in a Mosin barrel twist. For all I know they'd disintegrate. I would guess the most I would try to push one down the pipe would be 2000 fps.

Any info is appreciated.

1) It makes a sound like a pellet gun [sub sonic gas escapement]

32acp cartridge fit in the neck of the chamber of the 91/30 with 29" barrel:

I have .8 gr
Bullseye, .315" lead ball, and 2 layers of .1" polypropylene in a 32acp
cartridge OAL=.7". This fired is with an adapter in a full length 91/30
*7.62*x54R barrel.

But Alexcartridge seems to no longer exist. It was an old man and woman in Montana with 2 lathes.

2) This is not quiet, but uses the standard 7.62x54R case:
170 gr. Bear tooth .312" gas checked bullet, flared case mouths to accept bullet, 2.875",14 gr. Unique

It is safe to reload those pistol bullets...would go with cast lead fr seriously low speed loads (in the 800-1200fps area) and jacketed bullets for faster loads (up to that 2000fps area). Of the two, lobbing those lead bullets out at sub-sonic speeds is proably the most fun (and quietest).

That barrel is proably about .310" (be nice to measure it)...but I'd go for lead bullets in the .312" range. ASre a lot of offerings for the 32-20 that run about 115gr.

Still prefer Red Dot for these super lite loads; it's "fluffy" (low density) so it takes up more volume than the same weight of other fast powders. To lob lead bullets out there at about the speed of sound, would try somthing in the 7 to 8gr. range.

With jacketed bullets, would move on up to the 11 to 12gr. range, and proably toss a 90gr. JHP out at about 1600-1700fps. Are several bullets in the 85-100gr. range made for the .32HRM or 32-20 that would work fine.

Freind had a problem with garbage rading 'coons and 'possums, but the only rife he had at the time was an SKS. He's rural, but still has neighbors to worry about, so wanted something not likely to go dribbing all over the landscape (and into a neighbors hours or barn). Worked out a load that would cycle the SKS using a 90gr.JHP (made for the .32hrm)...was screaming out of the little carbine at 2600fps, but they held together (at least at short range) and certainly took care of two racoons.

doing this would actually be kinda neat playing around with a dose of Trailboss...the ultimate in fluffy! :)

Dunno who might have a load to start with...I know they have alot of load data for the older winchester centerfire rifle cartridges...mebbe start with looking for a 32 WS load....pretty close to the same size, I reckon.
