I want to use a smokeless powder in this rifle as the barrel is a mite crusty. I'm using an original Winchester loading tool to load my rounds and it doesn't crimp. Therefore to keep the bullets in place in the magazine, I need a full powder colum in the shell to keep from having the bullet get shoved deeper into the shell...any suggestion's, remember this is a bp era rifle.

Actually, it isn't.
Especially if it says Nickle Steel on the barrel.

All 92 Winchesters were made after smokeless powder was common and in use anyway.

Back then, Winchester loaded a 32-20 Hi-Velocity smokeless load that drove a 115 jacketed bullet at 1,640 FPS.

The boxes were marked "For use in Model 1992 or Marlin 1894 rifles only".
And there was no distinction made as to what year the Model 1892 was made in.

I believe a good load of IMR-4198 will be near or a compressed load and should do what you want.

Lyman shows a 100 grain jacketed Speer with 13.6 grains IMR-4198 as a compressed load, and giving 1,388 FPS at only 16,000 CUP.

If you are loading cast bullets, a case full to the base of the bullet with Trail Boss should fit the bill.

rcModel, I wasn't clear in the thread title, it was made in 1892, but it's a `1873 model, sorry about the confusion

Well then, thats a different ball of black powder!!

The 73 would probably best be reloaded with a crimped lighter load of smokeless in a real reloading die set.

Or use black powder or Pyrodex.

The problem even with Train Boss is, it is not supposed to be compressed.

So that won't help with your no crimp in a tube magazine problem.
