I have a mosin that slugged out at .312, the same as a jacketed 32 cal pistol bullet. Can I load reduced charges with the these bullets and if so, anyone have a source of load data? Thanks

.32 ACP pistol bullets might be a tad light to work well with the Mossy's rifling twist.

Don't know for sure, but generally, 100 - 110 grain is about the lower limit for good accuracy in a .30 caliber like the 30-06 or .308.
I think the Mossy would fall into that catagory too.

If cheap shooting or mild loads is the goal, you might want to look at cast bullet loads.

I did this with my 303 Brit. I used small pistol powder (unique equivalent). I just started with a reasonably small charge (32 magnum charge, I think) and went up from there until I had some sort of pressure signs on the primer. (My advise here is to use a powder charge that is less than half the charge that would produce near max pressure - in case of a double charge. Or a charge that is more than half the volume of the case - then a double charge overflows). The trick is to keep velocity low enough so as not to overspin or strip a cast bullet. The last time I did this I used I used a 4227 powder equivalent and basically ended up filling the case with powder. Pressure got close to normal loads. Captured bullets did not show any flame cutting or stripping but then I did use a cardboard wad. The case neck was unsized too. I would not fill a 762x54 case with 4227 - no.:uhoh:

Ed Harris' "The Load" is 13 grains of red dot with a standard weight projectile. That requires a gas check, or a jacketed bullet. I have experimented with 160 gr cast bullets and about 7 grains of red dot. That load is also derived from Ed Harris' work, but is not from a published load manual. My Mosin loves it at up to about 50 yards (1.25 inch groups from iron sights, probably smaller if I was a better shot)

there is some 7.62X54R "training ammo" out there that has a 47gr. hollow core bullet that shoots as good as the light or heavy ball,in my rifles. no reason the 32 cal stuff shouldn't work. jwr

Something else that might be useful is the new powder for cowboy action shooting, IMR trail boss. Really fluffy, really light.. Good for low velocity stuff.

Run through a swage and loaded ahead of a whole bunch of 3031 in an '06, they make a wondrous jackrabbit load. 80-grain .32-20 bullets work, also. Not necessarily the world's best accuracy, but the results are certainly entertaining.
