.327 Fever

This thread had me at “.327”

Dan-O…..you reloading for those guns?
Good luck finding cases to load. I have been checking Starline for 8 months; out of stock with no backorders :(.

The few cases I have will just have to last.,

OP, congrats on another .327! My 4.2” SP is a blast to shoot…literally. :)

Stay safe.

I've a few .32's... pictured is a Ruger SP101 and the Colt .32 S&W long. I reload target loads of approximately the same charge for both.

The Ruger is, for me, more accurate...I believe because of the red-dot is easier for me to see.

I've considered a smaller revolver in .327, but...anyway, I really enjoy shooting .32's, wish there was a larger selection readily available.

No shortage of new .327FM brass at my hacienda. PM me your address. I’ll get some to you stat gratis.
Thanks for the generous offer, very kind of you. :). I have about 200 .327 cases +\- a couple, so I am good for a while.

For a new .327 shooter-reloader, they may be in for a shock if they think components are easy to find though. :( Hopefully Starline will crank a few hundred thousand out soon so we can get more.

Stay safe.

Looks like I’m not the only one here who owes one to @Frulk , can’t thank him enough

Nobody owes me anything for helping them out during this long dry stretch all reloaders have been going through. Although those of us who own .327FM‘s have been in a particular bad spot for a while.

My hope is that Ruger, or more specifically THE person AT Ruger who has been a huge supporter of the .327FM behind the scenes (and there HAS to be somebody because they’re making 5-7 models chambered for the caliber and THAT does not happen by accident or focus group consensus for what some consider a niche caliber) has enough influence to push the caliber to the front of the Marlin production line in 23 or early CY24.

Mind you, not that I’m unhappy with the Henry as it’s a keeper but want to get it a cousin.

I was really impressed with the .327 Speer 100g GDHP in a recent gel test I conducted.

I shot through 4 layers of denim, 16" of 10% clear ballistics gel, and finally a catch box with packed corrugated cardboard.

I fired a series through my Single Seven Birdshead with a 3.75 " barrel, and then repeated the XTP only through my Single Six 5.5" hoping for improved results. All the shots penetrated a similar amount, 16" of gel and 2-3 layers of cardboard, except the Federal.

Federal 85gr Hydra-Shok was an ice-pick. It penetrated 16" of gel and 50 layers of cardboard. It did not expand (.312").

Hornady 100gr XTP reloads expanded to .36" with the 3.75" barrel, and .41" with the 5.5" barrel.

Speer 100gr GDHP factory and reloads were similar to each other, with the reloads expanding slightly more. Minimum expansion was .48". Unfortunately, it appears they no longer make the reloading bullets, just factory ammo, and that is scarce. Fortunately, I have enough for defensive purposes and a lot of XTP and cast bullets for general shooting.

The XTP might be nice in a theoretical lever gun (XTP in my 9mm AR does great). The Federal is going to get used up for plinking, which is surprising because the Federal Punch 120 gr JHP .38 Special+P did awesome with my Model 15: .51" expansion and 14.9" of gel.

Picked up my third shorty chambered in .327. Went with the LCRX this time around. Polished the trigger face and some other contact points and installed a meprolight tritium. It’s showing a lot of potential.

Get back with a range report. I've got several 32/327 chambered guns with my favorite being a couple of LCRs. With true 327 ammo these guns kick like a mule. I load powder puff loads (32 HR cases) and can shoot them all day and not come home with aching hands. FWIW, Rimrock 100 gr RNFP with a lite load of 231.

It’s probably not even anyone at Ruger. Most all of the .327 models Ruger produced in the past several years were “distributor exclusives”. Meaning some distributor paid to have a bunch of guns made to their specs.

If you offered to buy enough guns at enough of a price, I’m sure Ruger would make them for you too.

^^^ That’s a better clarification than I gave. Ruger currently has 11 models in their lineup. 4 models in their catalog exclusive to them and 7 which appear to be Lipseys Distributor Exclusives.

So it’s probably more accurate to state that hopefully Lipsey has enough pull or or puts in an .327FM order large enough to persuade Marlin to make it one of their first special run calibers.

I didn’t really like the .327 federal magnum until I got my GP100 chambered in it. Prior to that I was shooting them out of my Taurus 327 and the caliber was just too much out of a snubbie for me. That said the caliber is smooth as ice out of the GP 100 and I aggressively started checking local and out of the way gun shops for it once I discovered that.

Well this week I got lucky and I just found a shop that sold me their entire stock of .327 for close out prices. 32 boxes of American Eagle 100 grain JSP, and 10 boxes of Federal Premium 85 grain Hydra-Shok JHP for $700. 1800 rounds of ammo I can almost never find for $0.39 a round? Why thank you, don’t mind if I do.

For a guy who only is set up for shot shell reloading, this was an absolute score. Now I really gotta find a Henry chambered in it.
