Some .358 jacketed soft points and jacketed round nose bullets seem to be a bit expensive and a little hard to find. These go for a lot less.
I see the choice in weight are 180 200 and 220 generally for a model 14 pump rifle.
I have loaded quite a few 180 grain in both.

So, I'm thinking of using lubed cast and powder coated. This is a short range rifle. 100 yds or less would be as far as I would shoot it in the woods so I guess the bullets I've already made can go hunting and for just unloading cases at a range, I thought I could save some money and try out some lead stuff.
I'm sure these would work hunting whitetails too.
I have a few pics of bullets I'm looking at. Has anyone loaded anything like these and had good results? They are borrowed images. Those hollow points look most interesting.

Man...them shore is purty. The green one is the magic zombie one right? All jest aside, I really do like the colored bullets. That would work really well for me in some of my loads where I can easily mistake a hot round for a weak round or vice versa.

You have to match the hardness with the Vel somewhat even though you are talking about powder coated bullets. Yes they can be made to shoot in that rifle but will they shoot to point of aim of jacketed ones and be reasonably accurate without problems or not. That is what I would be worried about. But without actually taking the time and trying some of them in your particular rifle you will never know.:scrutiny: Ain't reloading fun.:)

I decided to order some 204 grain Lyman mold# 358315. They are cast from #2 alloy sized to .359 dia. lubed with Lyman super molly lube and have gas checks. This is the original bullet used in the 35 Remington cartridge according to my Lyman #49 manual. Can't go wrong with these I suppose.

A cast HP is kind of silly. HP's need velocity to expand reliably and a cast bullet will expand enormously upon impact with solid things like bones.
"...expensive and a little hard to find..." That's the curse of anything unusual. Have the same issue, up here, with cast 210ish grain .410" bullets suitable for my .41 AE barrel. Sounded like such a good idea away back when too.

Midwayusa, Grafs, and Midsouthshooterssupply all have the excellent 200gr RNSPT ProHunters in stock.
IMO, the best bullet for the 35Rem. Load over BLC2, H4895, or LVR (my preferences, in order).
When they come back eventually, the Remington 200gr Corlokts are my favorite. 2yrs ago when I couldn't find ANY .358 rifle bullets, I bought a RCBS 200gr FNGC mold. I now have no need for jacketed .35 bullets.

Limit the non gaschecked cast bullets to 1,500fps or less. The powder coated bullets can be treated like Jacketed. The gaschecked billeted need to be held to ~2,100fps or less.
I'm using the RCBS 200gr FNGC (220gr) over 39.0gr BLC2 for ~2,050fps and very good accuracy. Kill a deer with it last fall. One shot. Won't be the last.
