350 RM for deer v. meat destruction

Wondering how a Remington factory 200 grain CL bullet out of an 18" barrel would be as a short to medium range deer cartridge AS FAR AS DESTROYING MEAT. I've doped just about every other angle of the gun/cartridge combination, just not a lot of detailed information out about DOWN LOADING FOR DEER.

I've read that the actual velocity of the Remington factory ammunition is about 120-130fps slower than advertised. Which would make it about 2600fps and in my mind just about right for deer. Anyone with experience hunting deer with the 350RM ?

Can you SAFELY slow the 180 and 200 grain Speer or 200 grain RCL bullets down to about 2400-2500fps.

I know at the top end I can cleanly kill any animal in the Americas at reasonable ranges.

I'm leaning towards a Remington 600 in 350RM vice a 358WCF. If you can easily down load the 350RM for deer then I think the Remington 600 in 350RM is just about the PERFECT one gun, one cartridge mountain/brush gun.

My ONLY hesitation is how much meat destruction it would cause when compared to similar deer guns in the 308, 30-06, 35R, 358WCF, 44M, 444M etc. class.

They ALL will destroy meat!

Use bullets with 'heavy' jackets and or slow poke loads...but the best way NOT to destroy table fare is to place the projectile in the proper area... I mean, a slug through the boiler room, lung area...you want destruction in these areas.

Don't hit em' in the meat!

I use a 350 Rem Mag Ruger M77MKII for much of my meat hunting. I tend to use 225 grain Kodiak Bonded bullets for hunting within 150 yards. They are not as accurate as the Sierra or Speer bullets, but they hold together on tough game like moose, elk and bears. they do not create much meat damage in smaller stuff like deer or caribou. I am currently experimenting with some Nolser partition loads but do not have enough data...

I am launching the 225s at 2,800 fps from my 22 inch barrel using RL15.

If you want to save all the meat, shoot 'em in the head at 2 yards with a .22LR.

Good information from the other posts and if you check the manual, starting loads for the 350 RM will be in the 2400-2500fp using 220gr slugs. With your shorter barrel, I don't believe the velocity and meat destruction will be an issue. As mentioned, if you take out the lungs, it should not affect too much meat damage.
The 350 is a great round and is fast handling in the short barreled Remingtons so chambered.
