Ok I really dont have an intention to buy (atleast anytime soon)but I still have a few questions. I really like the colt python and was wondering if there were any firearms similar to it? It has to be .357 and able to shoot .38 special along with having a swinging cylinder instead of a fixed cylinder. Is there any firearms produced new like these that are less than 600$ If not how about used? a 7 shot capacity would be nice but no less than 6 is a must. Thank you.

Any .357 Magnum revolver can also fire .38 Special rounds.

Most double-action revolvers have a cylinder that swings out; fixed cylinders are usually reserved for single-actions.

The Colt guys will tell you there's nothing like a Python! But in general terms, there are a great many double-action .357 Magnum revolvers on the market. If you want more than six shots you're looking at S&W (used in that price range); for a new six-shot DA .357 under $600, your best bet is the Ruger GP100.

IMO the S&W M686 Plus is probably what you're looking for. The Plus has a 7 round cylinder and it's a good solid revolver. I bought a used M686-2 many years ago and I'm extremely happy with it.

I think I've seen an angel (taurus model 66) 6inch barrel, blued steel, do they make wood hand grips for it? Shes just as pretty as the python. I didnt expect an answer that quickly, atleast not one that hit the nail on the head. Now to twiddle my thumbs till my 21st. Or convince my mother she needs it to carry :p just kidding of course. Can someone explain the reasoning behind the age limit on buying a hand gun (being higher than 18) and what exactly what law it is? (just simple curiosity)

I think that it has something to do with responsibility(age 21, full adulthood), and having a concealable weapon. Kids act more rashly?

I posted a thread on here yesterday asking for wood grips for Taurus 66. I got one reply saying Hogue grips make some, I googled it and got a bunch of hits.

I suppose you are right, its just a shame there are so many over grown children. I (not being self absorbed here) am more responsible then a lot of "adults" I also can go fight a war at 18 and vote on our country's future but cant buy a hand gun, but the government does know best  I'm not being venomous to anyone here i'm just annoyed. Thanks again for the help all.

The voting age was lowered to 18 in 'Nam because the fighting and dieing argument was made.
Yup! The voting age was lowered to 18 during Vietnam because a class action suit was filed by 18 to 20 year old Americans claiming no representation. The politicians were sending them to war but they had no right to vote for those doing so. They had a choice, let us vote @18 or raise the draft age to 21.

I just got a new S&W 686 SSR and I LOVE it! I would highly recommend any model of the S&W 686. :)

There are several Dan Wesson Model 15s available for less than your price point. One of the strongest, most versatile actions made. The best triggers around. Bonus of being able to interchange barrels.

Also available in super mag caliber, if you want a bit more power.

A pre lock S&W 586 would be my choice.

A little harder to come by than the more common 686, with the benefit of a nice blue or nickel finish.

A good bit sexier (IMO) than the rough stainless finish of a 686.

A superb revolver without the hefty price tag of a Python. If I didn't have a Python, that's what I'd have in it's place.

My brother in law has a S&W 586. It is a sweet shooter. I have a 686 and I must say...I like shooting it. But then, I just like shooting a quality fire arm...anytime.

You've gotten good info and choices from the responding members. I hope you can find one to scratch that itch so you can get out there and PRACTICE! RANGE TRIP!

How come nobody said anything about A ruger security six. Built like a tank take any load you want to put in it. I know the trigger is not the best but that's a easy fix. And the price is hard to beat but they are going up.

Skidde that is a nice looking wheel gun. My most cherished gun is an H&R 949 (fixed cylinder DA)in 22lr. It was the first handgun my dad bought with his own $ and it was passed down to me as my first handgun
