Join the club! Glad I got it figured out and didn't have to buy another set... Not like they're that expensive but hey, that's 1000 primers and a six pack.
After actually sizing the die (not just using the expander die with the decapping pin), I have plenty of neck tension. Maybe even more than I would like. But that's better than being able to spin the bullet and seat by hand like I was previously doing...
I'm glad it works for you. I've never seen a die set like that. I have my grandfather's 44 mag dies that are the same vintage and he must have changed then over because they deprime on sizing.
It turned out that my RCBS .30 Carbine die set had the expander/decpaper combo die! In my die box I had a carbide sizing die also, so I replaced what I thought was the sizing die at some point, probably because the other size die didn’t work! RCBS is sending me the replacement decapping stem to use with the old sizing die.
When I talked to RCBS, they said that all their dies were made that way until they came out with their progressive press and they needed to combine depriming with sizing. I will need to check my other older die sets!
