I've been looking at some used .357's S&W Dan Wesson revolvers with 4" and
6" barrels.

Some have a vent on top of the barrel, does that have an advantage?

Is a .357 DW model 15 a solid choice? Target and HD use.

Also I've noticed some have a "internal lock".
Thank you

Dan Wesson revolvers are a very solid choice.
If you shoot a lot within a small space of time, the vent helps to cool the barrel. I like that it adds weight to the barrel, and helps the recoil a bit.
The barrels are interchangeable, that is, you can remove them, yourself, and install another length, without being a 'smith.

DW's have a reputation of being very accurate and reliable.

Use to be the lots of long range silhouette shooters used DWs because of their tunable barrels and ability to withstand lots of hot loads.

I have four of the Dan Wesson 357 mag revolvers. Two blue two stainless. They are very versatile strong and accurate guns. You can use the same gun for ccw, hunting, or at the range by just swapping barrels. Extra barrels are available from Dan Wesson. I highly recommend them. Fortunately they do not have an internal lock on them,

I really like mine. A lot of gun for the money in today's market.

Vent rib on barrel is mostly cosmetic but a nice touch DW stole from Colt. Dont hear much about DW revolvers but their 1911's are exceptional. If I were buying a revolver you can bet it would say S&W on the side.

The vented ribs look a bit silly on revolvers, in my view, but have a cosmetic appeal if angled (like that of the Python). The Dan Wesson's vented rib doesn't have the same effect, alas, so it becomes a matter of personal taste.

Dan Wessons have so many other quarks that they should have addressed those before addressing a non-existant one.

I love my Dan Wessons. They're very accurate. As a matter of fact for long range shooting they are of the best choice you can make. They proved it in Silhouette competition by taking 90% of the wins. Another reason the Dan Wessons were used is because they can take heavy loads all day without falling apart. You should go to http://www.danwessonforum.com/ to learn more. They are a superior gun imo.

Dan Wesson are great guns for the money.

I have several including 2 supermags that I used in competition 30 years ago when Silhoulette was all the rage. They are the most accurate revolvers I have and will outshoot my 30-30 hunting rifle out to 100 yards. I also have a 22LR gun with an 8 inch barrel that will outshoot any S&W 22 I have including the new 617 and old model 17. I am constantly looking for them at gun shows etc. Buy the gun.

I've owned 3 DW .357's in the past and always found them to be consistent in:

1. VERY strong.
2. VERY accurate.
3. VERY clunky double action trigger pulls.
