With the current shortage of reasonably priced components, what would be the slowest powder recommended for the .357 Sig? And or any other powder that would work?
That seems to depend on the bullets you're shooting. A quick look through some of my manuals suggest AA No. 9 and Viht. N350. So far I've been happy with HS-6 and 800-X.
You are looking for a propellant that fills the case so to help prevent setback of the bullet if you can. It depends on the bullet with a 140 grain XTP a max load of 800X is a compressed load. With a 125 jacketed ACC#5 is close to compressed. The actual volume of the charge is listed in the Lee book if you have it.
I use 12 grs. AA#9 exclusively with great results, It's a compressed load which prevents bullet set back which was a concern to me when I started reloading 357 sig. It is a high pressure round and I was worried about the pressure spiking due to bullet set back.
