Pretty neat. I built one similar to yours with the DRD takedwon upper so I can change the barrel the 308 quickly but haven't gotten around to working up my 358 test loads yet.
 
I didn't really extrapolate anything. The crown swelling have been measured in a huge amount of barrels.

Measured by whom? And I doubt there are a huge number of .358 barrels with 5/8-24 threads to measure even if someone sampled every one of them.

You would think if crown swelling of M-16 rifles had proven itself to be an issue that the DOD would have changed the spec. I agree with your basic premise that thicker is always more durable, but this is the first I have ever seen it mentioned that 1/2-28 was insufficient for .223.
