Was perusing my lgs ammo selection when I came across the first factory 358 Winchester ammo I have seen in 10 years. Hornady has made a run of 200 grain Spitzer bullets. The price was alarmingly high at $75 for a box of 20. While talking to the clerk about them it occurred to me that having owned a BLR in 358 winchester I have never shot new factory loaded ammo threw it. I have 2 boxes each of Winchester silver tips in 200 and 250 grain bullets that I picked up at gun shows but have not shot them. Anyone else seen any new 358 ammo on shelves?

Saw some Hornady last week. That’s is.

A 10 year gap is about what I observed as well. I saw 10 boxes of Hornady .358 win show up at the local Academy back around 2012. I bought it all.

I reload it now so I’m no longer looking for it. It’s also nice that Hornady sells the brass for reloading. I bought a bunch of that too.

Taking that with the variety of .35 cal bullets in my inventory I’m all set for the end times.

Last .358 Win I saw at a box store was Bass Pro (near Detroit, MI), they had Hornady 200gr SP, this was fall/winter 2020. I passed at $48.00/box.

At that price I would have bought all they had.
It's pretty common in my area, can think of 2-3 shops I've been in the last few months that I've noticed they had a bunch. Maybe be wrong but that some was hms ammo, one shop had maybe 30-40 boxes that I seen. Don't have a 358 at the moment and making 358 is so easy don't think I'd buy any unless it was like pre covid ppu price. Some day I'll build a 358 maybe on a mauser or Remington it's a very nice round.

When will they get 35 rem back out?
My 760 loves the Hornady 200gr FTX.
Have a dozen boxes in reserve.
My Contender 14" likes it too.

Target Sports had them 2 years ago. Winchester 200 gr PSP. $40/box. At the time I thought I was going to get a 358 Win rifle and bought 100 rnds. Never got that gun but I am glad I have the ammo.

I actually just bought 100 rounds of 360 Buckhammer from Grabagun since they had it for $25/box with only 12.99 shipping. Once again, don’t have the gun yet. Pretty sure I’m getting one or two of those though.

Might want to pick some of that up if your interested in that cartridge.

Just curious what bullet used in the 360bh you got, ammo should be pretty adorable since its pretty much a blown out 30-30 case. Hope ruger makes the marlin in the bh it would probably move to the top of my to buy list.

I know it’s easy to neck up .308 cases but I like having the correct head stamp.

Perhaps I’m stating the obvious here but I also like the flexibility of loading my own. When I first pick up my BLR in .358 W in the 80’s the commercial ammo option was Winchester Silver Tips. Those went away years ago and Hornady stepped in with an occasional run.

As it is, my hand loads outperform anything coming from the factor, past or present.

I am with you on that my brother. I have several loads that are pushing 2700 fps with 200 grain bullets. I have a couple pushing 250 grain at 2470. Not for the faint of heart but performance on game is outstanding. In my neck of the woods if a deer makes it 150 yards he may be on someone else’s property. These loads ensure that doesn’t happen.

100% agree. I too am OCD about having the correct head stamp. I also don't mind waiting occasionally for a manufacturer to make a run of brass for a particular cartridge... so long as they eventually do make a run.

I acquired my .358 BLR several years ago from the widow of a close friend.
It came with a Leupold 3-9x compact in medium rings.
I swapped the Compact scope for a 2-7 Vari-X II which fit in low rings.
I also replaced the 1-1/4” block of hard rubber of a recoil pad with a Boyd’s fitted solid 1/2” rubber pad. Lightened the rifle by nearly a pound.

It also came with 40rds of Winchester 200gr Silver Tips and 4! Magazines…
I later picked up another box of Win ST’s.
I fired 3- factory rounds to verify poa/poi. They shoot reasonably close to my handloads of 200gr Hornady Interloks over 48.0gr of H4895 (a Ken Waters pet load). Most accurate load I’ve found, but my rifle wants them seated to 2.835”

My brass is all Winchester .308 sized up to .358…

Very interesting. I have 5 or 6 loads worked up for my BLR, from 180gn TTSX to 250gn Hornady Spitzers. One of them is also the 200gn Interlocks with 48.0gn of H4895.

I passed the BLR down to my son as his first deer rifle a couple of years ago. He killed his first buck with it season before last using that Interlock load

Most of my 35 Whelen loads are 30-06 brass necked up. Some of my 250 savage loads are 22-250 brass necked up. Never a problem shooting any of them.

I hear you and wasn't insinuating you would have a problem shooting custom formed brass. In a pinch, I'd do the same thing and have in the past. Like I mentioned, I'm just OCD about having the correct headstamp.
