Well I just won a 36'' BPS barrel on an auction site and can't wait for it to arrive. I assume its a trap barrel but just bought it as a novelty because it was only $40. Anybody know what the demand is for these things? It seems that most trap barrels are 32 or 34 inches.

When i used to shoot a lot of trap I'd hit about 19-23/25 on a fairly regular basis but its been a while. At least I'll look like I know what im doing!

Thanks,
HB

36 inches!!!.. With the BPS's long action and that barrel, it's going to look 6 feet long (LOL). Does it have choke tubes? It might make a great Ham-Shoot barrel with the right choke.

"Long Tom" barrels are a carry over from a bygone day, the days of black powder when more barrel meant more range, more velocity. They're an anachronism today and heck, I'm not sure they ever were necessary even with black powder, but the myth carried over from the BP era for a long time. Had a goose hunting friend with a Marlin Goose Gun, 36" full choke, when I was a kid in the 60s. I've never heard of one for the BPS, though. By the time it came out, the myth was pretty much uncovered. 36" barrels add more weight out front. I'm not sure about the trap thing, if it'd be useful or not, not being a trap shooter nor into it. Might have a retro goose gun look with it installed. :D

Sounds perfect for me then :D
If nothing else it will be a very interesting novelty. It comes with 3 intechangable choke tubes as well. Its a Hastings from their liquidation auction as they have supposedly gone out of buisness. You could have bought the machines to make the barrels as well!

Barrels of that length are popular where my Father-in-law lives. They use them for Turkey Shoots and Ham Shoots. I assume for their long sight plane. There was one on Gunbroker a while back that went for over $200 for a BPS. It most certainly will be a novelty. Best wishes...chas :)

If you run out of ammo you can use it like a fly swatter and knock them down with the barrel. Bet you fun finding a case for it to fit in.

Its actually a back up whiffle ball bat. And I thought about that but like alot of o/c shooters ill just make a case or carry it with the original barrel on and swap them at the range, just leave the spare in a gun sock.

I've shot a friend's 870TC trap grade with a 36" barrel. Swings like a wrecking ball. Deadly on trap singles, though.

Enjoy yours.....

Works for me then. If nothing else and I get bored with it, I may get it cut and threaded at an appropriate length for turkey chokes.
