.36 cap & ball for CAS ?

According to the SASS handbook:

"Although . . . . . . .36 caliber cap and ball pistols are legal, they may not be powerful enough to handle all reactive targets."

I've also read that reactive targets are being used more and more in CAS.

Anyone having trouble knocking over targets with .36 caliber Colt 1851/61 Navy guns? Round balls VS conicals? Real black powder VS pyrodex, 777, etc?

Most reactives are set at a minimum .38 factory load. I have'nt shot any matches that had a "must fall" rule on a pistol target. But you would likeky lose out on a few bonus points. All of the must fall targets I've shot were on shotgun. But, back to your question. I doubt that you would knock down many W/the .36 be fun tryin though. S.R.

Gotta agree that I doubt that the .36 would work effectivly on the knockdowns. Our club hasn't been using any knockdowns for pistol but I do see them at regional matches. So far we are just ringing steel at our club level matches, and only using knockdowns for our shotgun stages. I would suggest sticking with roundball for your C&B revolver. I've yet to find a conical mould that casts an accurate bullet for a C&B and I've tried several. Most of us locally who shoot C&B's are shooting .44s. I have R&D .45 Colt conversion cylinders for my Remingtons, but sometimes I'll pack up my spare C&B cylinders and shoot em C&B. I don't shoot any BP substitutes, only the Holy Black will do.
