New 1851 Navy
Well, I did it, I ordered a 1851 Navy .36 caliber cap & ball
today. I had a coupon for $20. Off from Cabela. I also had
a $40. Gift certificate for Cabela’s, from Christmas.

So this is what I ordered to day:

1851 Navy model .36 cal W/steel frame. Part # IG- 210079
Replacement pistol parts kit 1851 Navy. Part # IG- 214052
Revolver powder measure. Part # XF- 210253

What else do I need?

I have black powder, 777, Caps 10&11, powder flask, balls and a
VERY nice hand made pistol loading stand made by Beartracker.

I remember seeing a post on making your own nipple wrench
and if I can find the post I will try that. So besides nice weather
what else do I need?

I will post what I think about it when I get it and take it apart
and check it over.

Thanks

I purchased that same model ffrom Cabela's about 6 weeks ago. I've been real impressed with the overall quality of it. You'll want to add a tub of Crisco, or one of the purpose made BP lubes. Careful though these things are addictive.

Tinker2,

Do you have a nipple wrench to copy?

If not, I will measure mine. I might be the one you refer to, wrung off 2 Traditions wrenches, gave the second to a pal, he made me one from drill rod.

If you have the capability to turn your own, you can work from my dimensions. Beats the hell out of the beer can metal they make them from.

Cheers,

George

I have one for a rifle, just to big.
Dimensions? Sure I will take the demensions. I have some 12L14 steel.
It can be case harden and it is about the right size rod 7/16

Thanks

Cut a mill slot through any good 5mm socket, and bingo! Tube/Cone/Nipple SPANNER as tha 'smith says!

A while back I posted pictures of one I made with the 5mm socket. It works great. Mike
